Joan Carol (Polkinghorne) Youngblood

Joan Carol Youngblood, 81, of Lincoln passed away at home on November 30, 2022, following a courageous battle with cancer. Joan former Joan Carol Polkinghorne was born December 22, 1940, in Detroit to the late Douglas and Lois Polkinghorne.

Joan grew up in Highland Park, MI. then moved to Redford, MI with her parents where she attended Redford High School and graduated in January of 1959. She worked as a clerk typist for Commercial Union Insurance Company, where she met her loving husband Jim Youngblood and was married April 22, 1961. They were married 61 years.

Joan taught 1st and 2nd grade CCD classes at St. Vincent DePaul church Bay City, MI and St Mary's Church in Denville N.J. She also worked as a secretary for the CCD office in Denville, N.J. Joan was very proficient in the arts. She made beautiful ceramic items, cross stitching, crocheting, and her favorite, knitting. Over the years she made hundreds of afghan's, sweaters, hats, baby blankets. She was a member of the Fraternal Order Eagles Ossineke, MI., and loved bowling, golf, playing cards and socializing. Joan also loved to travel with her husband Jim. They took many cruises with their friends all over the world.

Joan is survived by her husband Jim, 4 children, Diane (Kevin) Donlon of Englewood, FL., Michael (Cheryl) Youngblood of Bloomington, MN., Mark (Julie) Youngblood of Livonia, MI., Lynn Marie Youngblood of Lincoln, MI., their adopted son, John (Chelsea) Youngblood of York, PA., three siblings, Douglas (Faye) Polkinghorne of Brighton, MI., and Cherie Schriedel of Sterling Heights, MI., and her half-sister, Joann Siekas, sixteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Youngblood, and her brother in-law, Richard Schriedel.

Joan is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 2pm-8pm with a prayer service beginning at 7pm. Visitation will resume on Friday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Ossineke from 10am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Rev. John William as celebrant. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan. Interment will be at St. Catherine Catholic Church Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McWilliams Funeral home.
