wow... outstanding 88General Fam!! What comfort it will add to the family to know our sentiments, thoughts and prayers are with them during this time.

If the plaque hasn't been finished I would suggest that we add Oliver. Oliver's father and my late uncle were cousins.

Wonderfully stated cuz (Trina) (a Dinwiddie thing; I'm trying to tell you - y'all!!)

Let's enjoy this journey...enjoy those we experience the journey with - and take care of yourselves (mind, body and spirit) VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Gosh...I missed a few days and "wow". I'm so mad at myself b/c I'm off on Fridays and I would have loved to attend the memorial to show support from the class of '88. My prayers goes out to his family.

That was awesome Katrina, Yvette, Steve and to everyone else who pitched in on the statement, obituary, etc. that was posted to our site.

I am so proud to be a part of such the connection we all have made. This website bonds of all together and truly feels like family. I've gotta stay on top of checking it out more often...you can really miss some important stuff.

There were about five classmates that attended the service. Oliver's brother Jerome says thanks to the entire class for what was done for his brother.

That is wonderful Gloria. Thanks for letting us know!

I hope we will continue to use this site to share important information - celebrations, achievements, losses, whatever. There is something special about the connection with a classmate. I speak from experience - when I saw Andrea at my father's funeral, IT MEANT SO MUCH. I had tears in my eyes because of the joy and support I felt that she took out time from her schedule just to be there for me. I hope Oliver's family felt the same way from our small gesture.

Katrina,

That was a beautiful poem in his honor. You did an awesome job! I wanted to go, but realized I was the only person working in HR that day, and couldn't leave for an extended period of time.

Thanks Walicia, but Lonnie actually wrote the poem. I did the rest. If I had to write the poem it would have started... Roses are red ....

Those that aren't aware James "Bubba" Wyatt is at SRMC rm #481. He has been in hospitals and rehabilitation (due to kidney failure) for the past 62 days. I visited him on Saturday and he could use our prayers. We talked about the reunion; he said that he didn't know about the reunion;but would have enjoyed seeing everyone. Bubba will have to return to rehabilitation (healthsouth:across from new hospital)once the fluid around his heart and in his lungs has cleared.

Deana McNew (Harris)

Maybe we can send him an arrangement of flowers from the class of 88? A little something to let him know we are thinking of him and wish him well. We do indeed need to keep up with our classmates and try to keep closer contact.

10/13/08 06:22 PM #1164

Judy Abernathy (Bolden)

Deana,
I think that is a wonderful idea and we should do it very soon. I think as many people who can go visit is also a good idea. Let me know what we are sending and how much. I have a friend with a flowershop that may give us a deal.

Sounds good. How should we go about handling this kind of stuff when it comes up?

10/17/08 08:02 PM #1166

Judy Abernathy (Bolden)

Im not sure, but if anyone knows please speak up, I think Bubba would really appreciate that.

just a thought - to keep it practical and not taxing on just any one person... let's consider hospitality sub committees and indicate it by birth month (since we already have accurate data on this forum for that) - anyone needing hospitality care would be coordinated among the members of their birth month.

ie - if Lonnie is hospitalized in ANY month - the hospitality sub committee would be formulated from Lonnie's birth month (those who share his same birth month) - Of course, the web administrator would have to quick ref this to POC... again just a thought... to keep a simple orderly system.

Another thought would be simply to use the current months birthdays as the group who would coordinate hospitality care/concerns for those requiring it during the current month... again just a thought

Pamela Wingfield

I agree about keeping it practical, I like the idea of a hospitality sub-committe but I think it might work better with people who volunteer to be on the committe.

Another way we may be able to use Lonnie's idea is like what we do at church. It is called the birthday rally in which you make a contribution during the month of your birthday. We can use this concept beginning in 2009 to raise money for the scholarship fund among class members. We challange each classmate to make a donation to the scholarship fund in their birth month. We can have a graph to show totals and have the months compete against each other. Maybe some type of recognization and/or token can be given at the end of the year for the month which contributed the most money.
