After high school, Duane entered the U. S. Marine Corps and at one time was assigned to embassy guard duties in Stockholm, Sweden, where he began working towards a college degree. After the USMC, he obtained several degrees in education followed by a career in school administration. He was not the man you remember from CCHS. He was greater than that.

RIP, my friend. You are missed.

Duane called me at work one day. I guess it was shortly before he died. He told me about his amazing career and life. Like Richard said, there was a good man hiding inside that boy we knew in school.

Duane was my first date ever! He was kind and I enjoyed his company. I was saddened to learn of his demise. I had received a nice letter from him a year or so before his death. He achieved much in his life and I will always have a fondness in my heart for him. He was so comfortable to be around and he did not mind one bit that my shoes on prom night were so slippery on the bottom. As I slid around the dance floor, he smiled and all was ok. He and his sister and I went to Natural Bridge together and we had a fun time. We saw each other once while I was at the University of Wyoming, right before he left to serve our country. This was the last time we saw each other as our lives went in different directions. I am so happy that I knew this man and that he and I were friends. I will always cherish the memories of him and the fun times we had together. RIP Duane and thank you for touching my life in such a positive way.
