Dr. Robert J. Davis Jr (1947 - 2012)
Submitted by Michael Drummond
Dr. Robert J. Davis, Jr., B.A. Loyola University of Los Angeles -1969, D.D.S. U.C.L.A.-1973, was born July 4, 1947, and passed away March 13, 2012. Dr. Bob, as he was affectionately known, moved to Weaverville soon after dental school, and it was the fulfillment of his dream, as stated in his UCLA yearbook: "...plan to spend some time camping and traveling before settling down to be a town-dentist and nice guy in some northern woods hamlet." Weaverville was that dream come true, and he loved it here. While dentistry was his profession, it was not his obsession. Dr. Bob, a long time member of the Clampers, loved his family, his friends, baseball and traveling. Over his long softball career, with various local teams, he played almost every position, and seldom missed a game or ball tournament anywhere in the local area.
He took many trips across the country, and he especially enjoyed the baseball stadium tour that he took with Weaverville friends during the summer of 2000. He also saw his favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies, play in various cities: Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, Oakland, New York, Atlanta and Seattle. He visited with his family at least once a year, in either Florida, Maryland or Michigan. He loved local high school sports, and was a fixture at the Trinity High's games throughout the county. His enthusiasm for the Wolves will be sorely missed.
Dr. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Charlotte. He is survived by his son and best friend, Robert J. (Bobby) Davis III and Sandy Perez. Also by his father, Robert J. Davis, Sr., Major, USAF (Ret); sister Cherie (Davis) Romane, and brother Michael Davis and wife Cheryl. And by niece Patricia (Davis) Spiegel and husband Michael; nephew Brian Davis; and grand nephew Greyson Spiegel. And by Dusty and Tony, two men who were like grandsons.
There will be a memorial gathering to honor Dr. Bob at Scatena Field on May 12, 2012, to celebrate his life with joy, memories and baseball.
