Linda Uribe (Jurewitz)

The last time John and I were together with Tom was in San Francisco at our USF 25th reunion.

The three of us plus a few other Pius X friends had gone north for college.  At that reunion,

we resolved to do a better job of staying in touch and to get together the next time John and I came north.

As often happens, though,  we didn't manage it.  There were Christmas cards but no visit.  You think to  yourself, "we can get together next year...there'll be time."

Then, in 2013, we heard (in a roundabout way) that Tom had died earlier that year.

It broke my heart!

Since frosh year at Pius, Tom had  been the dear friend who was always there. We first got to know each other  in chorus and madrigal.  Through lots of long rehearsals after school and evening perfomances, Tom made it fun with his silly jokes and sly grin.  But he was also a sensitive, supportive friend when you needed advice or a shoulder to lean on.   As it turns out, Tom was also a good match maker.  He was the one who told me I should invite John Jurewitz to the sophomore Sadie dance  (and we all know how that turned out ! )

When we went off to  San Francisco for college, it felt good to know that my good friend Tom would be there, too.   We  had fun during those years at USF and stayed connected.  But graduation, weddings, moves across the country, starting families sends you in different directions.   Regrets, regrets.

I will always remember Tom and think how lucky I was to have had such a fine man as a friend.

And I will always miss him.
