John Gantz

John J. Gantz, Jr. 56, of 20998 Country Squire Lane, died suddenly on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at St. Vincent Hospital, New York.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with burial in Linwood Cemetery, both in Dubuque.  Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

He was born on July 31, 1948, in Dubuque, son of John J. "Jack" Sr. and Rosemary (Wertz) Gantz. John was born and raised in Dubuque.  He graduated from Loras College in 1970, attended the University of Dubuque in the master of business administration program and currently was studying art at Clarke College.

He married Carolyn FitzGerald on June 20, 1970, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Des Moines.

John retired from Pepsi Cola/Vendors Unlimited in 2001 to pursue stock option trading.

He was a member of Holy Ghost Parish and the Dubuque Museum of Art.

He enjoyed biking, fishing, skiing, playing bridge and art.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn, of Dubuque; daughters Michelle (Brady) Novak, of Cedar Raids, Iowa, Christine Gantz, of Minneapolis, and Stephanie Gantz, of New York; grandchildren Hannah and Kailey Novak; a soon to be grandson; his mother, Rosemary Gantz, of Dubuque; siblings Mary Gantz, of Sarasota, Fla., Jim (Jean) Gantz, C.J. (Mary Ann) Gantz, Cathy Gantz and Pamelope Gantz, all of Dubuque, Dan (Linda) and Tim (Sue) Gantz, both of Wisconsin Dells; Tom (Peggy) Gantz, of Sherrill, Iowa; and Lisa (Ken) Oglesby, of LaGrange, Ill.; and his mother-in-law, Bonnie FitzGerald, of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his father, John J. "Jack" Gantz, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Dubuque Museum of Art, Loras College, Clarke College and the University of Dubuque.
