Raymond Loney

Raymond M. "Butch" Loney, 54, of Dubuque, died February 19, 2002, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.  He was born on January 22, 1948 in Dubuque, son of Delos E. and Alvina A. (Reiss) Loney.  He married Susan C. Bremer on November 30, 1968, in Dubuque.

Ray, known as "Butch" and "Gamora" by his family and friends, was born and raised in Dubuque.  He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Wahlert High School in 1966.  He worked at Eagle Food Market from 1968 to 2002, starting as a grocery bagger and then transferring to the meat department.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, shotgun and bow hunting, boating, fishing, and horseshoes.  He was a keen Chicago Bears fan and an accomplished bowler from high school to present.  He received many awards from his outstanding 700 series, and also achieved a perfect 300 score.  He was a member of the 700 Club, the Meat Cutter's Union No. 431 and was active in Scouting.  Many people knew him for his skill in wine making - "the best in Iowa".

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Susan, sons, Matthew R. (Elizabeth) Loney of Dubuque, and Brian M. (Angela) Loney of Cedar Rapids; 4 grandchildren; his father, Delos E. Loney, of Dubuque; brothers, Jim (Robin) Loney of Osceola, IN, and Mark Loney, of Dubuque, and a sister, Judy (Richard) Pergande, of Dubuque.  He was preceded in death by his mother, and two brothers, Dennis and Michael Loney.
