James "Jimbo" Powers

James “Jimbo” W. Powers, 75, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Saturday March 9th, 2024, at MercyOne Dubuque.Jim was born July 22, 1948, in Dubuque to William and Helen (Laughlin) Powers. He graduated from Wahlert High School in 1966. He served in the US Army from 1967-1969 and was stationed in Japan. Jim married Patty Humke on October 25, 2003. He was a proud father, grandfather and loving husband.

Jim loved life! He was a consummate cook and the ultimate host entertaining with his quick wit and one-liners. He took great pride in this yard, enjoyed Days of Our Lives and the challenge of the daily Sudoku. Jim was an avid sports fan, especially Da Bears and Hawkeyes, but his true passion was playing golf.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Patty; son, Tracy (Bobbie Jost) Powers; grandchildren, Emma, Will, and Brady Powers all of Dubuque; siblings, Kate (Dennis “Oscar”) Meyer, Dennis “Whitey” (Martha) Powers, and Kevin Powers of Chicago; siblings-in-law, Karla Powers, Bob (Donna) Humke, Dennis Humke, Brenda (Gary) Esser of Sarasota FL, and Renee (Gary) Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Avril Humke; brothers, Mike and Tom Powers; siblings-in-law, Mary Powers, Jim Humke, Charmaine Zantow, and Deb Appel.  In lieu of flowers a James W. Powers memorial has been established.
