Ann Schroeder, 69, of Dubuque passed away after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at home while surrounded by her loving family.
Ann was born July 27, 1948 in Dubuque, daughter of Robert ‘Bob’ and Bernice G. (Leicht) Wiezorek. She married John Schroeder, November 9, 1968 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was employed at the former Dubuque Packing Company and finally at St. Patrick’s Church where she found her true calling. She was a familiar face to all parishioners at St. Pat’s and had a smile for everyone who came to the rectory door. She will truly be missed.
Ann lived for her family. She hosted Thanksgiving dinner for the Wiezoreks and Schroeders every November in the home that she grew up in. She loved holidays with her children and grandchildren and created many traditions that will continue. She enjoyed regular dinner dates with her volleyball and bowling friends, fishing trips, and an occasional visit to the casino. Ann and John traveled to many family weddings throughout the country together. She was always up for a game of Euchre and proudly taught her oldest grandsons the game of cribbage. Some of Ann’s favorite times were interacting with her grandchildren. She loved following Austin and Nolan at their sporting events, watching Lillian dance on stage, attending the Jackson County Pro Rodeo with Gavin and Coy, and a good game of “Come Find Me” with Corbin. Weekly Sunday night dinners were a special tradition with her children and grandchildren that they always looked forward to and trips to Chicago brought Ann so much joy. Ann was the "Queen Bee" of the family and will be missed beyond measure.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John, sons Bob (Greg Lyons), of Chicago, IL, Ron (Lisa) of Bellevue, IA and their sons, Gavin and Coy, and Jon (Natalie) of Asbury, and their children, Austin, Nolan, Lillian, and Corbin; four brothers, Bob (Chris), Ken (Sue), David (Peggy) and Billy (Carolyn) Wiezorek; sister-in-law Patty Wiezorek; brother-in-law Paul (Elyn) Schroeder and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Mike Wiezorek, her father and mother-in-law, Sam and Marie Schroeder; a brother-in-law, Duane Russow and sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Lucas and Marion Russow.
The family would like to thank the staff at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Oncology departments and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Melanie. Their loving care was comforting during this difficult time.
