Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Kelly

Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Kelly, of Chincoteague Island, VA died unexpectedly May 16, 2012. Kathy was born in Omaha, NE January 8, 1945, daughter of the late Paul R. and Marion S. Kelly, of Sun City Center, FL. The family lived in Staten Island, NY, Montclair, NJ, and Duluth, MN. Kathy graduated from St. Scholastica High School in Duluth. She attended Loretta Heights College, in Denver, CO, and graduated from Georgia State while living in Atlanta. She spent one semester studying in Vienna, Austria, and after graduation spent a year in the Peace Corps, on the Marshall Islands. She managed a Nature Company Store in Baltimore, MD for several years. She moved to Washington, DC, where she worked for a wholesale florist company before moving to Chincoteague Island. Kathy lived on Chincoteague Island for ten years, and loved the island and all its wildlife. She was known for her 'pet' chickens and ducks, two of whom were called Thelma and Louise. She is survived by her friend, Delbert (Cigar) Daisey of Chincoteague Island, and two sisters: Carolyn K. Harding and husband Lee, of Chazy, NY, and Nancy K. Perelman and husband Stanley, of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by devoted nieces and nephews: John C. Harding, Laura H. Pearl, Thomas M. Harding, Elizabeth H. Church, Catherine H. (Rini) Green, Sean Kelly, Brenda K. Rudan, Brian Kelly, David Kelly, Marc deJohn, Kristin deJohn Farmer, John Perelman, and Max Perelman. She also has 30 great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great nieces. Kathy was predeceased by her parents and her beloved older brother and sister, David E. Kelly, of Sun City Center, FL, and Nora Kelly deJohn, of Montoursville, PA and Davenport, IA. The Salyers Funeral Home on Chincoteague Island is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home on Monday, June 11, 2012 with Rev. John Thorne. Condolences may be made online at www.salyerfh.com.
