Another beautiful happening in my life. There in“My Home Town” 5/25/13. Another happening that will stay with me as long as I shall live. There were Falcons here, There were Falcons there in Dunedin Town that night in the crowded streets of that friendly little place that I love the best, it was knee deep in Falcons everywhere, and Wow did “The Most Beautiful Falcons of All,” the ‘62 Falcons that stood at my side, that night, ever have a rip roaring good time, as we crawled from Pub to Pub, there in them streets that I grew up on, there in my “Home Town” when we howled at the Full Moon on Saturday Night.
Curiosity filling each of us as it was the first Pub Crawl for us all. Starting out early, before the Crawl had even begun, as we first entered Kelly’s “ Chick a Boom Room,” as we all felt somewhat of an uneasy feeling of what kind of reception we elderlys (donned in Falcon regalia) might receive, as we were already being curiously eyeballed by a group of young studly-looking jocks at the end of the bar, as we walked into the already crowded room.
I boldly stepped forward, and in a very loud voice that has always been a natural for me, did I shout out loud and crystal clear for all that were present, to hear. “Do ya’ll know who we are? We are “The First Ever Falcons -- that’s who we are -- the ‘62 Falcons, that’s right, and right here, pointing my finger, is the first-ever, the original first Falcon Home-Coming Queen, (as beautiful as she always is, even without her tiara), and the first-ever ‘62 Falcon Class President (the dignified gentleman that he always was -- and still is).
As that whole place erupted in deafening applause, let by the young jocks, as it turned out that they were young Falcons also, class of ‘03, with shouts of Yes, ‘62 Falcons, ‘62 Falcons, Mighty, Mighty Falcons, and as I looked around the room there was grins from ear to ear on the faces of each and every patron there.
And so it went for the rest of that night. Recognition at each place we went of who we were, received with much dignity and respect we were, of the much younger crowd. Young Falcons wanting to talk to us, to know our name, asking many questions: “What was it like waaaay back when, back in the day?” Wanting Photos of themselves taken standing next to us, as if celebrities we were for the night, bringing a feeling of proudness welling up inside of myself, as I stood there, being admired and even given hugs by Falcons less than half my age. Feelings inside of me that I had never felt before then. Feeling grateful for the ‘62 Falcons that did attend. Now calling “The Dunedin 1962 Falcon Memorial Day Pub Crawl Week-End, Between Reunion Parties” such a LARGE SUCCESS.
Thank you very much. Dunedin belonged to us that night. We were mighty, we were awesome, we were proud. We were ‘62 Falcons. “We Came, We Saw, We Conquered,” In the palm of our hand, D-Town was ours again ....Amen....
Sincerely, a First-Ever Falcon, A ‘62 Falcon, and Proud, Eddie R Simmons, and The Other Mighty Falcons that had my back on that very special Falcon Night.
