We have learned that our classmate and friend, Eli McGee, passed away nearly 10 years ago on Sept. 11, 2012, in Scranton, Pa. Our condolences and prayers go out to Eli’s family. He will be missed and remembered. Thanks to Eli's daughter, Stephanie, for alerting us to his passing.
Here is the text of Eli’s obituary, as found on the Legacy obituary website. It has been edited to bring it up to date:
“Eli K. McGee of West Scranton, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton after an illness. His wife is the former Mary Anne Castaldi. They would have celebrated their 41st anniversary in a few weeks.
“Born in Newport, R.I., son of the late Eli and Mildred Oberfall McGee, Eli grew up mostly in the Clearwater, Fla., area. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Before retirement, he was employed in the purchasing department at Friedman Electric, formerly Bell Electric. Eli was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking, woodworking and crossword puzzles.
"Also surviving are a daughter, Stephanie McGee, Taylor, Pa.; a brother, Ernest McGee, Texas; several nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law.
“The funeral was held Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Patrick F. Guido Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. David Twiss, pastor of Green Ridge Assembly of God Church, officiating. Interment was private at the convenience of the family.”
