We're getting ready for the 2014 Dunedin Jr. Falcons football season!  This is a large commitment you and your child are about to undertake. Our goal is to make your season DJF a fun-filled learning experience.

What to expect this season:

You will be required to purchase a Football package which will consist of a game jersey, T-shirt, game socks and a spirit set (Additional items may be added). The Jerseys will not be handed out until the Thursday night before our first game.

ALL PACKAGES MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY Thursday, July 24th, OR FOOTBALL PLAYER WILL NOT RECEIVE HIS JERSEY PACKAGE AND WILL NOT PLAY. If you need to make payments, they can be made at any registration date before season starts and up to July 24th.

Starting Date, Practice nights and teams:

The season will start on Monday, July 21nd.  We will be practicing Monday – Thursday for the first two weeks, from 6:30-8:30 pm.

There will be a MANDATORY parent meeting on Tuesday, July 22nd, at 6:15 p.m. Please come to the field and go to the main bleachers.  The football players will remain on their practice fields with the coaches while we have the meeting.  There will be a lot of information covered, so please adjust your schedules.

Age/Weight Matrix:                                                             Playdown Weights

Flyweight (7-8 yr olds) maximum weight  90 lbs           9 yr olds - 65 lbs

Mighty Mite (9-10) maximum weight 110 lbs                 11 yr olds - 85 lbs

PeeWee (11-12) maximum weight 135 lbs                     13 yr olds - 105 lbs

Midgets (13-14) maximum weight 170 lbs

If your child weights more than the maximum weight for his age division by the first game, we can move him up to the next age level. We will weigh each child at equipment distribution prior to the beginning of the season to ensure he is eligible to play the first game.

You will need practice pants, girdle, practice shirt and cleats for all practices.
Items will be sold at our field during practice and sign-ups in June, July, and August.

Rain days - Do not assume practice is cancelled due to rain. Our boys and girls will still be on the game field in the rain so we need them to practice in the rain. Cancellation of practice will be done at the field just prior to practice. DO NOT CALL YOUR COACHES. You are expected to show up ready for practice.

- If you have old cleats, please bring them to the field to put on our recycle bin. The goal here is to provide cleats to those less fortunate and to have access to cleats towards the end of the season when someones shoe starts falling apart.

How to be prepared:

Please make sure your children are ready for practices.  This means DRESS APPROPRIATELY –

  • Gym shorts of any kind.  NO JEANS or Sweat pants in the summer heat.
  • T-shirts or tank tops are fine.
  • Sneakers are fine, but we due prefer a cleat which will assist your child during tryouts.
  • No jewelry of any kind.
  • Please make sure your child has plenty of water for practices.

As parents, you will be required to volunteer in our concession stand and participate in all league/team fundraisers.  This is a non-profit organization and the responsibility falls on all of us to do our part.

Besides practices and games, we will be participating in additional activities which may include but not be limited to spirit week, dances, parades, homecoming events, family night, skating parties, and much more.

Participating in Football is a big commitment by the player and parent.  Your child is part of a team and is making the commitment to himself and his teammates. Parents and Players will be asked to sign a participation contract so that they understand the commitment and rules of our organization.

Calendar:  Attached is a preview of the 2014 varsity schedule and additional event dates (all subject to change).  If you are planning any major trips (week or longer) during season, please consider how this may affect the team and let your coach know as soon as possible.
