Diane and I were friends for over 17 years. She was such a great friend - always smiling, with a cheerful attitude, and always combing her long, beautiful hair! I'd always give her a hard time about that when we went out on the town together. I have missed her greatly!
The following are excerpts from the obituary of the Durango Herald at the time of her death:
Diane Marie Luther
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Diane Marie Luther, a Durango native, who died Saturday, August 12, 1989, in an automobile accident. She was 29. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery. Miss Luther was born June 11, 1960, in Durango. She was a graduate of Durango High School and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. She was employed by North City Market, where she was a check-out clerk. Miss Luther died as a result of massive head injuries during a rollover accident at Silverton. She was the passenger in a Jeep that flipped. Miss Luther is survived by: her parents, Jerry and Louise Luther, of Durango; two brothers, Alvin Luther, of Phoenix, AZ, and Michael Luther, of Silverton; one sister, Linda Wilson, of Bloomfield, NM; her fiance, Charles "Chuck" Thompson, of Durango; three nieces; and one nephew. ---------- Extra notes: I was told that she was a passenger in the back seat area of a Jeep CJ-5 that had no back seat; she was seated on a cooler. The driver of the Jeep decided to do 'donuts' in an empty dirt parking lot. Diane had no way to hang on and was thrown from the vehicle as it went over, getting crushed underneath. She had no chance because of the stupidity of a man who drove drunk.
