Max Martinez Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Durango Baptist Church for Max Martinez, a former Durango High School football player, who died Sunday, March 14, 1999 in Seattle. The cause of death was unknown. He was 39. The Rev. Bob Ross will officiate at services. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. Mr. Martinez was born Nov. 25, 1959 in Fruita. He graduated from Durango High School in 1978, where he was on the wrestling and football teams. He had been a resident of the Seattle area for the past 9 years, and owned a building restoration company there. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Martinez in 1981 and Ricky Lee Martinez in 1993. He is survived by daughter, Charissa Martinez, of Seattle; his mother and stepfather, Lucy and John Martinez of Durango; father, Joe Martinez of Salt Lake City; brother, Louis Martinez of Port Lyons, Alaska; two sisters, Debbie Kadel of Grand Junction and Linda Tucson of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews. I spent 4 years in Seattle because of Max. We weren't together when he died but I still loved him. Still do for that matter.
