WINTER SPRINGS, FL - Lu-Ann Metcalfe Cardin, age 52, passed away at her home peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Lu-Ann was born on July 11, 1956, in Springfield, Massachusetts. She grew up in East Longmeadow, MA, and graduated from Ludlow High School. She was the daughter of the late Joseph E. Metcalfe Jr. and the late Mary Moylan Metcalfe. Lu-Ann was a Sergeant for the Florida Department of Corrections. She loved her job and took pride in it. She was recognized for an heroic act in 2003 for the recapture of an escaped inmate. Lu-Ann also helped to establish several life enhancement programs for the inmates while they where incarcerated. She saw potential in everyone; the glass was always half full in her eyes. Survivors include: Her husband and the love of her life Leonard Cardin, of Winter Springs, FL; her two daughters, Kathleen E. Herring of Winter Springs, FL; Kerry L. Ruvio and her husband, David L. Ruvio III, of Bronson, FL; her two step- children, Rose Cardin, of Palmer, MA, and Edward Cardin, of Three Rivers, MA; her brothers, Thomas Metcalfe, of Winter Springs, FL; Joseph E. Metcalfe III and his wife, Alison Metcalfe, of Monson, MA; her sisters, Donna Le Page and her husband, Ray Le Page of Boyton Beach, FL; her sister Patricia St. Amand, of Ludlow, MA; and her seven grandchildren, Daniel and Timothy Jackson, of Palmer, MA, Samantha Cardin, of Three Rivers, MA, Autumn Boyd, Mackenzie Boyd, and Bailey Herring of Winter Springs, FL and Malina Ruvio, of Bronson, FL, She is also survived by many, many wonderful friends. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Banfield Funeral Home located at 420 W. State Road 434 Winter Springs, FL 32708. Her family is also planning an additional memorial service to be celebrated in Massachusetts at a later date.
