It has been many years since LaVon has passed away. Somehow it seems just like yesterday. It was the first time I had lost someone to Cancerl Little did I know how it would affect my life and so many others. My daughter passed away in July of 2009. i was lucky to have seem LaVon daughter Lisa. She came to the funeral home, and what a girl. Lavon would be very proud of her. She works with hospice and is beautiful just like her mother.
Friend, you are still missed and never forgotten by your friends.
I remember a beautiful girl who blew me away with her dancing during school functions, both in Lansdowne and East Side. I only wished that I could dance like her but I never did accomplish that.
LaVon and I were members of the Girls Leader's Club that assisted Ms. Williams in gym classes. We had a lot of fun with the group of girls during gym classes.
LaVon was a beautiful soul. She was always an encouragement to everyone. Even in her great illness, she looked forward!!!
I too loved to see her dance.
I also met her daughter Lisa at Cathy's daughters funeral and was blown away by her wonderful personality as well as person. LaVon is very proud I know.
LaVon was one of my dearest friends. We went to school together from 1st grade in Hawthorne through East Side and were friends until her early death. She was a simple person without airs but a super personality......always smiling. Everyone liked LaVon. She was a good student, good athlete, and of course, a fabulous dancer.
I'll never forget how she worked along side us on the 10th reunion but found out that she had cancer just before it came about. She wasn't able to come and had done so much work on it. We missed her terribly. We still do.
LaVon was an unbelievable role model. We used to play pinochle together after we all graduated. We would all sit and complain about cramps and our little kids. LaVon never had a gripe. She had to climb a steep staircase to get up to a 2nd story apartment with ankles and knees that were soldered together from rheumatoid arthritis in her 20's.....but she never complained. Her two small children helped her out of bed in the morning and dressed her....but she never complained. LaVon was so embarassed of how swollen her face had gotten from "Gold" treatments. Doctors referred to it as "moonface" in those days. She had been so pretty. She still was.....inside, where it counted.
LaVon died at 28 but she left us some wonderful guidelines which many of us have tried our best to live by. LaVon Feltenstein was a GREAT person, far wiser and mature than her years and a dear, dear friend. She will always be missed.
I knew La Von from the neighborhood I lived in and I thouht she was a wonderful person. I love the beautiful thoughts everyone has shared about her. I still think of her sometimes.
