Jerry told me, "We had great teachers at East Side High," and he was right, wasn't he? He remembered with much respect his Spanish teacher Mr. Delano, and in letters to me he often used Spanish and German phrases. Jerry had the Irish gifts of gab and quick wit, and he loved language, and those who knew him knew, of course, he was drawn to the poteen. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force upon graduating from East Side High, and quickly picked-up some Greek while stationed on the island of Crete, and German when stationed in Germany with his first wife, Linda June (an East Side High honor roll grad). He was a voracious reader, very proud of his children, and a loving big brother.
