Janet and I meet while at Lansdowne. It wasn't until the ninth grade that Janet and I made a decision to try to get the school to allow girls to attend the mechanical drawing classes. We were the trail blazers to equal opportunity for all and did get to be members of the mechanical drawing class. That was the start of other kids being allowed to go to classes that usually were designed for the other sex. So, girls got to go to wood shop, boys got to go to home economics classes.

And the most enjoyable event that Janet and I shared was when we participated in a skit in music class where we pretended to be the Diamonds to their song "Little Darling." We wore little scarfs over our heads just like they did during their performances. We had a blast.

Of course, Janet continued on her academic way to a great career with IBM. Janet inspired me and was a great friend during our Lansdowne years and we lost the closeness after we got to East Side. But, she will always be considered a friend of mine.
