Edward L. Morris
October 17, 1942 - June 7, 2023
St. Louis, Missouri - Edward L. Morris quietly left this world on June 7, 2023, of complications of lymphoma, which, unbeknownst to him, he had acquired as a Naval lieutenant while serving in Vietnam. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Peggy (Hawn), his sons, Ted (Melody) and Nick (Heather), his bonus son and daughter, Michael Jenny (Laura) and Sarah W. (Jenny) Holmes (Riley), grandchildren Owen, Ella, Molly, Meredith and Will, his former wife, Ann Bottger Morris, many friends and family and Chloe, his joyous golden doodle.
Ed was born in 1942 to Edward H. and Virginia N. (Jung) Morris in Belleville, Illinois. After graduating from Washington University in St Louis (1964), Ed joined the U.S. Navy, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and one at the Navy Schools, Treasure Island, San Francisco, where he fell in love with teaching, a devotion that followed him throughout life. Upon discharge, he earned an MBA (The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, 1970), and, eventually a Ph.D. (St. Louis University) where for many years, he was an adjunct professor in his spare time. After graduating from Wharton, Ed returned to St. Louis and began a career in investment banking where he became the youngest partner in the history of Reinholdt & Gardner, was the Executive Vice-President for Investment Banking at Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, and was elected President of The Fortune Group, an investment banking boutique. During that period he served on the boards of companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.
In 2001, as Ed thought he was moving into retirement, he joined the faculty of Lindenwood University, where he served as Dean of the business school, then known as the School of Business and Entrepreneurship. After leaving the deanship he returned to full-time teaching and earned his most cherished accomplishment when voted Professor of the Year by the university's undergraduates. Upon his real retirement, Ed was recognized as Professor Emeritus. He is also the author of two books: The Lindenwood Model and Wall Streeters: The Creators and Corruptors of American Finance.
At the time of his death, Ed had just finished his first novel, as yet unpublished.

Rest in Piece, Ed.
It seems you did a lot with your life. What I remember is my brothers and I growing up in French Village, knowing you and your family, since we were all youngsters, and shopping for many years at your parents' IGA store. You were always the friendly one - easy to get to know.

Edward Morris and I were both teaching at Lindenwood University in 2003 when we met, the first time since East Side. He was introduced as Edward Morris, but I excitedly shook his hand and said you're Eddy Morris from East Side!
It was very exciting to see him again after so much time. Lindenwood was a very busy place, so we never had an opportunity to visit again. But it was good to see him that last time.
