I spoke to Howard's wife, Charlene, who helped fill in the blanks about Howard and his life. He served in the Air Force from 1962-66. He resided in Bakersfield CA until his death on 12/5/88 from cancer. Charlene thanks us for contacting her. I told Charlene we would honor Howard at our upcoming reunion.
I spent a lot of time with Howard my Junior and Senior years. He, Roy Winans and I hung out together alot. I have a photo of the three of us, with him in his AF uniform, just before he left for the Air Force. He had a great sense of humor and was pretty good at immitating some of our favorite cartoon characters. He had a German Sheppard dog named Saber, that was a mean dog, which Howard was the only one who could handel him at all. Howard and his parents finally had to give it to the police, to be turned into a Canine officer, but he ended up chewing up a couple of the trainers, and so they brought him back to Howard's family. Howard and his mom, dad, and brother lived in Wedgewood, I think was the name of it, off Kings Hiway. It flooded real bad one year, and I remember my dad and I, using our motor boat, riding around the neighborhood to see if we could rescue anybody, that was trapped in their houses. I remember, to give you an idea of how high the water got, we caught one of our stern runnings lights on a clothesline, in somebody's back yard, ripping it out of the deck, while looking to help anone that needed it.
