In Memory

Kendra Loomis

Kendra Kay Loomis rose into the light on November 23, 2019.

Born on July 26, 1967, she was loved by many and lived her life by inspiring even more.

From humble beginnings, raised by mom Janet and grandma Evie, Kendra befriended a plethora of compadres and continued those amazing and wonderful fulfilling friendships throughout her life, too numerous to be mentioned.
Smile really big and insert your name here if you are one of her side-by-side lifelong friends.

Early days were spent with neighborhood pals building fond memories while attending Boyd Elementary.

Most holidays and birthdays were celebrated with her Uncle Larry & Aunt Susie (Deanna) Liddell in their home along with her cousins Jody, Todd, Terry, & Georgann.
More new friends added to her life, as Kendra entered junior high. She excelled in various programs which culminated with her graduation from Eau Claire North High School in 1985.

Kendra's fiery Leo personality, grit, & determination fueled her to set goals early on in life.
Despite any setbacks endured along the way, she forged a life of purpose, making a huge difference in the world.
Little did she know it would be deemed EPIC.

Working steadfastly to earn her way through college, she studied Economics at UWEC, Political Science and Economics at Umass Boston/Boston University, Economics/Urban Leadership at NYU/Hunter, and Law at UW Madison.

She chose the next move to be Puerto Rico, quickly becoming her home away from home, as she successfully practiced bankruptcy law, first in the prestigious role as a law clerk for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Puerto Rico, Gerardo (Jerry) Carlo, and then later in private from 1994 to 2009.
Most recently a devoted attorney at G.A. Carlo Associates. Puerto Rico provided Kendra her life partner, Raùl Dàvila Rivera.
They were enamored with each other & diligently worked to serve their clients while building new friendships along the way.
Their lives were filled with world travel, intellectual synergies, a peaceful home life, and a rich social life.
They enjoyed touring the world, visiting & photographing old churches, fabulous monuments & waterfalls.
One of Kendra's most favorite activities was to entertain. An almost monthly if not more often ritual was to invite family and friends to join them beachfront, a mere 50 feet from the Atlantic Ocean.
These are experiences most of us only dream of.
She was grateful...and she knew how important it was to tell those who meant the world to her how much she loved them.

In between practicing law and enjoying the beaches of Isla Verde, Kendra continued her love of soccer.
She represented Puerto Rico in league and national tennis.
Also, Kendra was on the first-ever Puerto Rican National Women’s Soccer team, playing defense for the team and competing in the CONCACAF tournament in Toronto in 1998—a World Cup Qualifying tournament.
She was intelligent in addition to street smart, quick-witted, jovial, an excellent listener, loved igniting deep conversations and reading life-changing books. She also became a fierce advocate for various social and political causes globally, nationally, and locally in Puerto Rico.

She loved to swim, & was able to accommodate this love as, with an olympic sized pool on the premises of her Coral Beach apartment which she owned & managed.
Kendra set up senior fitness programs for those blessed to participate in the weekly classes.
These were a few of the ways she stayed in shape and helped others with their fitness goals.

Other loves included rescuing kitty cats, collecting meaningful art, burying her toes in the sand, toasting friends with excellent wines, and promoting what is good and fair in the world.
She recently became a board member of her condo association in order to advocate for her tenants, promising to be the voice of resolution bigger than any problems wanting to arise.

She was an enthusiastic, self taught chef, whose kitchen overflowed with fresh herbs, spices, garden grown vegetables, & local fruits.
Being extremely creative, she was famous for her ever-popular marinated meats and use of her stellar grilling techniques.
People often expressed that she could easily be the host of her own cooking show in her ‘spare time’.
Kendra’s beautifully plated food was brimming with love and compassion for those she served.
Whether gathering an intimate circle or a large group of friends, bbqing was her forte and there wasn’t a soul that ever went hungry or thirsty in her presence.

As life progressed, Kendra was called back to Wisconsin on several occasions to care for and serve as guardian for her mom and brother Rob.
Through it all, she persevered with grace and wisdom beyond her years, maintaining personal relationships and continuing business back home.

Kendra is survived by her mother Janet Loomis, brother Robert Loomis, life partner Raùl Dàvila Rivera, step-father Roger Loomis, loving cousins, numerous great friends, close neighbors and colleagues.

Kendra penned this on May 23, 2018 exactly 18 months to the day of her passing;

“I have always believed in Symbology, even when I didn't believe in anything else. And I still believe that life/the universe sends signals and I don't mean that it sends heart attacks, but it suggests changes and paths more subtly, and sometimes not quite so subtly, and when the path is chosen, all the signs that lead to the path sometimes all pop-up and I realize that I was being led. I feel the same today and that actions that I am currently taking, were already written. I feel this strange déjà vu. Maybe, it is all fate/fake/false, but, I feel that so many things were already decided/happened and I have become informed along the way and then recognize the signs that I had been shown. I am a pawn in my life. I react, but my reaction followed the signs. Nonetheless, the signs for me have always lead me in the right direction. They have made me a better person and I thank the signs.”

All friends and family are invited to join us as we celebrate Kendra’s extraordinary life on Friday, December 27th from 7-10 pm at the VFW on Starr Ave in Eau Claire, Wi.
