Barbara J. Vreeland, 40, of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Baring, died Sunday morning, February 10, 1991, in an Evansville hospital where she had been a patient for six days.

Born in Edina on October 13, 1950, she was the daughter of Charles T. and Pauline Kavanaugh Early.  On August 18, 1973 in St. Aloysius Church in Baring, she married Joseph A. Vreeland, who survives.  Also surviving are her mother, Pauline Early of Edina; three brothers, Tom Early of Towson, Maryland, Bob Early or Rockford, Illinois, and Dr. Terry Early of Kirkwood; five sisters, Eileen Taylor of Mercer, Katie Keefer of Edina, Betsy Barnes of Hannibal, Bridgett Early of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Teresa Early of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and thirteen nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father in 1959.

Mrs. Vreeland was a National Merit Scholarship finalist from Knox County High School class of 1969.  She received a B.S. degree from NMSU in Kirksville and her M.A. from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana.  She was employed by the Social Security Administration as a claims representative for the disabled. 

She was a literary tutor, a reader for the blind on an Evansville radio station, and an advisor to the Evansville museum.  She and her husband were also sponsors of the Evansville Chamber Orchestra.
