In Memory

Alan Shumaker

Alan Lee Shumaker, born on February 9, 1952, in Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, in Dallas, Texas.

Alan grew up in a close-knit family as the son of Leslie Earl Shumaker and Clara Alice Shumaker. He was a cherished brother to Leslie Russell Shumaker, Pamela Jean Shumaker, and Brian Lewis Shumaker. After graduating from Knox County R-1 High School in 1969, Alan briefly attended college before deciding to pursue a different path. He began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad and later relocated to Texas in 1975 to continue building his life and legacy. Alan made his career as a Forklift Mechanic at Crown Lift Trucks before retiring in 2018.

Alan was the beloved husband of Terri Leigh (Feagan), with whom he shared 40 years of marriage after their union in Waxahachie, Texas, in 1984. Together, they raised two children who brought immense joy to his life: Sarah Anne Shumaker and Nolan Ryan Shumaker. He treasured moments with his family by spending time with them at baseball games supporting the Texas Rangers or taking his children to see Nascar races at the Texas Motor Speedway.

He found joy in fishing, golfing, watching baseball and Nascar. He could often be found watching his favorite movie O Brother Where Art Thou or his favorite television show Jeopardy. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock music such as The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and ZZ Top. He loved to watch Westerns or Fox News while he did crossword puzzles.

Though he was a man of few words, Alan was a wordsmith. Quick witted, stubborn, and smart – he always had a word for everything. Alan looked forward to family gatherings and catching up, but never overstayed his welcome. There was nowhere he’d rather be than with the family at home or going on a drive. His children fondly remember their father taking them to Reagor Springs for snacks and a Yoohoo as well as many road trips to visit his family in Missouri.

Alan was a Believer and member of Hurland Baptist Church in Hurland, Missouri. Alan will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his hardworking spirit. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Earl Shumaker and Clara Alice Shumaker.

Alan is survived by his wife Terri Leigh Shumaker; daughter Sarah Anne Shumaker; Son Nolan Ryan Shumaker and wife Ashley; siblings Leslie Russell Shumaker, Pamela Jean Shumaker, and Brian Lewis Shumaker; and many other family members, including his mother in law, sister in laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:00am, at Park Meadows Church in Waxahachie, Texas.
