I graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1972 with a BA in English and Philosophy. Due to my first two years in science and math and my work in the computer center I was hired by IBM into a two year training program to eventually sell Large Systems to Fortune 500 companies. It was a great career for 13 years. I retired in 1985 with a new born, 2 year old and 5 year old and spent the next decade as a stay at home mom. In 1995 I began volunteering at the childrens’ school. Eventually I went back to work for a boutique institutional money management firm and retired for the last time in 2011.
In 1974 I married Doug Carleton, a 1969 graduate of Carnegie Mellon. Our career goals took us to Boston and then we settled in NYC. While in Boston, I graduated with a JD in 1978. After settling in New York, we welcomed three children in five years. It was a great adventure raising them and now a joyful experIence with the grandchildren who all live nearby. In 2013, Doug and I went our separate ways after 39 years of marriage.
As much as I loved my careers, I treasure my family. I love the ocean so we always gather in the summer at the beach. We are now a merry band of 14 and it’s great fun.
In addition to family, I love performing arts, so I try to take advantage of NYC’s spectacular offerings. While at EHS, I worked as an usher at the Guthrie Theatre. The passion is still there.
