Mark Eugene Hellstern, born Oct. 19, 1954, in Hopkinsville, KY, died May 6, 2011 at his home in Glencoe, OK.
 
Mark earned MA degrees from UCO and OU and a PhD from OSU. He taught history at TCC, ORU, and Langston for many years.
 
Mark was an accomplished musician. He was drum major at Edmond Memorial HS and UCO. Mark was pianist and music director at Frontier City Music Hall for 4 years. He also played with many choral groups and soloists, including Irish tenor Joe Feeny. Mark was a beloved teacher who inspired many to become educators.
 
He is survived by his beloved wife, Julianna; his children, Hannah Jewell, Bethany, Eli, and Cherith Hellstern; his brother, Paul; and his parents, Gene & Dorothy Hellstern.

Ann Reed (Turner)

Mark was the first to ever ask me to go on a "date". It was to be a dance in his parent's basement. Of course, I was too afraid.  I had the privilege of knowing his first wife and seeing his beautiful daughters. I am sorry that he had a hard time in life.

Paula Abel (Shumpert)

I remember Mark playing "Elenor Rigby" at Jack Thorne's funeral.  From reading Mark's obituary, It seems he was a super guy who just got better with age.  Very sad to hear of his death.
