Terry W. Burt
February 3, 1954 – July 11, 2020

We are gathered here today, to not only mourn the loss, but to celebrate the life, of Terry W. Burt. Terry was born Wednesday, February 3, 1954 to George and Betty Burt, and he was one of two sons.

Terry is survived by his wife, Sallie Burt, and his three sons and daughter. His oldest son is David with wife Leah and their three children: Summer, Michael and Wynter; Alex and his daughter Isabella with his wife Emily and their three children: Emmet, Ethan and Alex; and Trevor with his son Cole with his wife Meghan and their son Lucas; Carisa-myself, and Terry’s older brother DaWayne and his wife Susan and their four children: Adam and his wife Erin and their three children Maisie, Alice and Clara; Molly and her husband Jake Walker and their two children Emma and Weston; Tyler and Caitlin and their three children Lincoln, Scarlett and Wells, and Sarah and Tim Shelton with their children Paxton and Elliot.

Terry and his parents lived in Oklahoma their entire lives. When his parents purchased their home in Edmond, Broadway was still a dirt road! My Dad did like to travel around, especially in his really nice yellow Barracuda. He was a man with deep roots who decided to settle in Oklahoma and soon found himself in love and happy.

Jump forward many years and everyone would know how proud my Dad was that all four of his children had graduated from Edmond Memorial High School the same school that he graduated from. It was the class of 1973.

There are many people who truly knew our Dad and loved him for his quirkiness. Everyone who has known him knows how much he was loved. I have heard growing up that he was the class clown, and I got to experience this myself all through my years.

My Dad was an oddball of sorts. He knew how to make people smile and laugh. He was a man-of-all-trades who was accomplished at carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, he worked on cars and motorcycles and could build anything. If there was something you brought to him or asked him to help with, and he did not know about it, you better believe that he would be on his phone or computer researching it. He was the DIY and How-to Guy!

Dad was a very hardworking man. He did everything he could to support his family, the way a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend should be.

Between all the work he did for Tinker Air Force Base working on B-52s doing work as a sheet metal mechanic, he still had time to keep his bride, our mom, happy by working her “Honey Do List!” After retiring from his 31-years of service at Tinker he was finally able to enjoy his hobbies. They included watching his favorite NASCAR races, teaching carpentry to his children and grandchildren, being our top chef, and of course, getting oil on his hands and face after he has been working on one of the car projects. Why did he do this? Because he was our Dad, our mechanic, and our Go-To Guy for everything that needed fixing.

Dad was not perfect; he was perfectly imperfect. No matter what he was going through he was still able to help me stay centered and grounded. He was there through all of my good times and hard times. He was, still is, and forever will be my best friend, and my first true love.

I am forever thankful to have had you as my Dad. Being under your care for 29-years was marvelous, but now that your time has come to leave this world behind, you can continue to protect me from heaven above.
