Gary John Berndt

Gary John Berndt, 70, of El Campo passed away on February 21, 2015. He was born on May 12, 1944 in El Campo, Texas to the late Genevieve Mohan Berndt and Niels Charles Berndt, Sr.

Gary was a self employed mechanic and also worked at the E.C.I.S.D bus barn where he retired in 2011. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of American Legion Post 251 and Elks Lodge 1749.

Survivors include his wife Vicki Romig Berndt of El Campo, daughters Kari Lark and husband Stephen of McKinney, and Cassi Yackel and husband Clay of El Campo, grandchildren Payton Lark, Hayden Lark, Madilyn Lark, Colton Yackel, and Miranda Yackel, and brother Mike Berndt of San Marcos.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, N. C. Berndt and Tommy Berndt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015, from 3 pm to 7 pm at Triska Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at 2 pm at Triska Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Dubroc officiating.

Burial will follow at Danevang Lutheran Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 251. 

Pallbearers will be Clint Hlavaty, Jason Galow, Lawrence Labay, Thor James, Austin James, and Buster Bustamante.
