James Lloyd Shepard

James Lloyd Shepard, 60, of Danville, died Friday, July 10, 2004, at his home.

Born Jan. 20, 1944, in Wharton, Texas, he was the son of Henry Floyd and Esther Bell Angeline Smith Shepard. On January 4, 1969, he married Beverly J. Moore in Beeville, Texas.

Mr. Shepard was a Vietnam Air Force veteran. He was the chemical supervisor for the First Miss Corp. and then the Climax Company for 18 years, both of Fort Madison.

He was of Baptist faith and attended Long Creek United Methodist Church in rural Danville. He was a Boy Scout leader for about 10 years and coached youth baseball and basketball. He loved to hunt deer and camp. He rode RAGBRAI several times. He also enjoyed snow skiing and golf.

Survivors include three sons, Dustin Shepard of Danville and Darrin Shepard and Devin Shepard, both of Olathe, Kan.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Jodi Mrsny of Rogers, Ark., and Joyce Shepard of Canyon Lake, Texas; and one brother, Darryl "Pete" Shepard of Canyon Lake, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation began on Monday at Lunning Chapel, where the family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Shepard was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Latta officiating. Burial was in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville.

A memorial has been established to the Diabetes Association.
