Richard Ray Barwise VIEW PROFILE

Written in memory of Richard Ray Barwise by Nana Barwise

Rick was born June 3, 1943 in Tucson, AZ.  He moved to El Paso with
his parents and sister, Kay, at the age of 8 months.  His early
school years were spent at Rusk and he later attended Austin Junior
High and Austin High School.  As a high school student, Rick played
French horn in the band and was a member of "A" Choir.  While
attending Texas Western College (UTEP) he majored in business and
participated in college choir activities including "South Pacific,"
a stage production that was taken on tour to a number of locations
throughout the United States.  Rick was the National Sales Manager
at Mountain Pass Canning, a company located in Anthony, NM that
canned Mexican foods under the Old El Paso label.  In 1969, Rick
married Nana Lee Knight (AHS '62).  The two became parents of a
daughter, Delaine Diane, born in 1972 and a son, Ryan Richard, born
in 1977.  Nana and Rick were small business and commercial real
estate owners.  A devoted father to his two children, Rick
especially enjoyed their participation in the Coronado High School
Band in West El Paso.  He and Nana twice served as Co-Presidents of
the Coronado Band Boosters Association.  Delaine Barwise Linville is
Director of Human Resources for the Tennessee Department of
Transportation.  Ryan recently completed five years as 2nd trumpet
with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra in NY.  Ryan is moving to
Norfolk, VA to perform with the Virginia Symphony for the 2011-2012
season.  A choir member, tenor soloist, and deacon at First
Christian Church in El Paso, Rick never lost touch with his love of
music and was extremely proud that his daughter and son were both
accomplished musicians.  Rick and Nana were married for twenty-five
years until his death on December 29, 1994.

On a personal note, Rick was loved by many for his outstanding sense
of humor and ability to converse with anyone, anywhere, and anytime.
He was charming and handsome and is truly missed by all of his
friends and family.  Quite a guy!
