TOM ETHERIDGE PASSED AWAY IN A CAR WRECK? AROUND 1970-72 MORE OR LESS., SOMEWHERE ON THE WEST SIDE? IF I AM WRONG ON THE FACTS, SOMEONE CAN PLEASE CORRECT THEM
After graduating Austin with us in 1961, Tom attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO. Upon graduation from CSU, Tom went into the U.S. Army and was a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam.
In the early 70s, Tom Married Nancy Blassingame from Claude, TX. One of the better wedding receptions if I do say so. The entire wedding party, including Skip Camp and me, ended up in the swimming pool of the motel where the reception was held tuxes and all...
Tom and Nancy moved to Boise, ID, where they had one daughter, Bevin Spring. Tom had gone into the insurance business. On Mother's Day in about 1972 - 74, Nancy and Bevin went to Claude to visit her mother. That morning Tom called his mother and Nancy to wish them a Happy Mother's Day, then he and a friend drove into the neighboring mountains to have lunch at a favorite pub. On the way home Tom rolled his Porsche on a switchback, his friend was thrown out of the car, the car landed on all four wheels on the road below, and Tom had a broken neck. His friend survived with only a little road rash.
Tom was a great guy, lived life to the absolute fullest, and has been missed by his friends for all of these years.
Because of his great personality and unusual wit, Tom was always ready for adventure! With his love of adventure and my lack of good sense, there were times we narrowly escaped jail time--both in El Paso and Colorado.
A more loyal friend could not be found and "Horny Toad" is missed to this day by his many Austin friends.
