Wow... people having children, owning your own businesses, supporting charities, delusions of gradeur from classmates who haven't yet to grow up! (okay, that's me), professional corporate executives, philanthropic gurus, political leaders, event planners, decision makers, world travelers, teachers, diplomats, mail folk - (note I didn't say "mailman"), police officers, customs agents, "Family Guy" retreads, Ben Stiller look alikes, comedians, pilots, preachers, dog owners, cat lovers(wierd-o's), cattle ranchers, professional beer drinkers (that's me too) and more... All that being said... this should be one hell of a fun reunion! I need practice on my keg stand technique and it's been way too long sincne doing a few beers through a funnel on a gravity machine! Should we book limos? Taxi's are a bit hard to come by in El Paso... or at least the last time I was there. :)

Its Serg with erge to merge!!!! ok everybody. Pull out your box of pictures. Does anybody have a picture of my masterpiece...you know...CLASS of 1988 on top of the Gym.
Yup, for those who didn't know, that was me. Here is the full story behind my solo work, titled, "My Masterpiece".
Toilet paper nite came and I was set but my crew bak down, Jose Casas(Pepe - the driver) and Joey Hernandez. So - with no car I walked to school that night,(with equipment and supplies) early enough to hide under a bush across from Burges. I saw all of you toilet papering and everybody running like crazies and yelling(awsome job by the way)and securities showing up and all at the end. NOW,it was m...y turn. The security made a 1st round came back to the front of school, I waited bout 20-30 for his 2nd round and BAM! Pinchi Mission ImpossibleLOL. I had 5-7min to get on top of that roof. I ran around Library-caddycorner open courtyard-jumped security fence between band room & football lockeroom-thru breezeway around snackbar-then between snackbar & math hall-then up as if you were heading to office-by the side of weightlifting room on the outside was a screen wall-I climbed on to breezeway roof-then over to roof of girls locker room and WALLA the Gym's ROOF. Remember I was carring all this shit. Ok I did my picaso. Then the fun began. As I left the scene, I jumped down to the metal breezeway !CLANG!!...In the stillness of the night with security ears near by...wrong move. A spotlight beamed over my head, I hit the floor for a split second, then i jumped all the way down. Ran around the cafeteria and Mr.Pacillas room, then behind tennis courts. all the way pass the school bus stop and cross over to Ponder Park. By this time heart rate at 120. Threw everyting including overalls, oh yeah did I mentioned i had overalls over regular clothes.
Finally walked to Whataburger....Johnny Galvan (the guy with the funny laugh) gave me a ride home. My satisfaction came in the morning arriving to school with camera at hand and seeing everybody going back home for theirs. My disappointment..In the following two weeks after a Quincianera...(and what did we do after quincianeras, right, "CHICOS"). As sober as I was the camera stayed behind with an undeveloped role of film. Damm My Masterpiece was gone. So I say again pull out your box of pictures, and please look for my masterpiece and send me a copy.

Edna, maybe you have a copy and since your here in San Antonio we can get together for a BBQ.

By the way Class of 89 failed in their attempt to mimic
MY no scratch that OUR MASTERPIECE.

Lisa C. Cardenas (Herrera)

Sergio... I remember that!! I never knew who did it though. CONGRATS to you!! You are the MASTER!!I dont think any class topped the toliet papering and the 88 on the track. No wonder MR.Chavez retired after we graduated!!

Hey guys the offer still stands to use my house for a pre reunion party!! Just let me or Angel know, so we can make plans!!

05/21/08 06:20 PM #191

Christine Seelig

Hey Sergio, its Chris, I was excited to finally find out who the MASTER was, thanks. What saddened me though was that, in my return to visit the school and some of my friends that now teach there I noticed that the tract had been re-done. Who did the masterpiece on the track?? anyone wanna fess up? That is gone now too. Well our mark is there right now on the Marqee to let people know that our reunion is coming up. Thanks for the laughs guys and thanks to the people coordinating the events. You guys are awesome.....Hey Grace and Gee, I'll be in San Antonio on Friday night and Saturday evening, will be in Austin for half a day for business and doing some training with some business partners there as well. If any of you want to meet up for a drink or something let me know. Send me a message with your contact information and maybe we can meet up.

Sergio,
I was at the toilet papering but ran pretty damn fast when security showed up. It helped that I only lived one block away. I always wondered who had created that beauty. Do you all remember the class of '88 on the drag strip on Edgemere? Who did that? Those were fun days. I was always able to get away whenever the cops showed including the Loya parties and the crazy Tesuque and Tejas street house parties.
Marty,
Do you remember when we hitch hiked our way to a quinceanera in Socorro? That was stupid but funny?

05/21/08 11:18 PM #194

Lisa C. Cardenas (Herrera)

Wasnt david Herrera who did the 88 on Edgemere? for some reason I always thought it was him. I remember the toliet papering and the security chasing everyone. I was watching everything going on from Julio Rojas house. wasnt he in our class?

05/22/08 12:11 AM #195

Jeff Brewer

Everyone is in confession mode... class of 88 you are beyond words (in a good way).

I see Millie is no longer lost... if you didnt know Millie we couldnt find you. I spoke to Missy Holguin who Promises to look for band pictures from high school and post them soon. She is another that surfs through but whatever reason hasn't signed on. Hurry up already!! And Lisa Lewis promises to sign on soon as well. And last but not least heard through the grapevine Alex Gallardo will sign on soon too...

So to those classmates that are checking out the website but havent signed in ... We are waiting anxiously to see the family pictures or pictures from high school.

And if you haven't seen the latest picture of Mike Grijalva. Check it out on Ray Lombrana's site.

**** On a pre reunion get together... Im in. Just let me know when and where!

Patrick Meza and I painted the 88 on Edgemere. We had to close down that stretch of Edgemere to create our masterpiece. We put barricades on that stretch and started working on it. It took all of about 10 minutes since we had a paint roller and it went very quick.

Sergio great job on the 88 on the roof. When I first saw it, I said wow that's awesome. I wonder who did it? I think I did know it was you but they removed it so quick (bummer) we did not dwell on it too much.

Now as far as the track being painted, when we first saw it we were pretty upset since the track had just been redone. The entire track team was not very happy about it since it was the first time in our lives we had a brand new track. I don't think we ever found out who did that. Anybody want to confess?

05/22/08 11:45 AM #199

Melissa Mendez (Thompson)

How sad I am... I don't remember the "88", how is that possible?

If anyone has pics please post them, I would love to see what I missed out on 20 years ago!

05/22/08 01:56 PM #200

Christine Seelig

Melissa, I can't believe you didn't see all that!! Well they were all obvious. The 88 on Edgemere faded within a couple of months. Though the 88 on the track just got fixed this past fall. I remember how exciting it was to attend the football games and see the 88 near the starting line for the 100m dash. Even at the 10yr. reunion when we were acknowledged on the field most of us were standing right on top of that beautiful 88!!! Sad to see it go, so in 2008 it is now gone, good thing it lasted 19 years. Good Job to whomever did it.

05/22/08 03:01 PM #201

Edna Dominguez

I sure do remember there were a lot of '88 painted.

Sergio's was definitely The Best. However... Evelyn, Pat, Marie's and mine (there may have been a 5th person-I can't remember)but I believe ours was the 1st to go up.

We painted ours at the corner of Edgemere and Freak Street. It started with us four, but I think we kept getting interupted by cars and really couldn't get a good start. I think Evelyn and Pat had to go home and Marie and I waited a little longer and finally the coast was clear and we made our move.

I remember all the 88s going up soon after, and other than Sergio's I think ours (the girls) was much neater than the rest.
