TX Fire Captain Dies after Motorcycle Wreck

El Paso fire Capt. Alejandro Gallardo died Tuesday after suffering severe head injuries in a motorcycle accident early Sunday morning.

June 07--An El Paso firefighter captain died on Tuesday following a motorcycle accident Sunday, El Paso Fire Department officials confirmed.

Alejandro Gallardo, 48, was the captain for El Paso Fire Station 19, 2405 McRae on the East Side, Enrique Aguilar, a spokesman for El Paso Fire Department said. Gallardo first joined the department in 1997, Aguilar said.

According to El Paso Police Department, Gallardo was driving a 2004 Honda VTX motorcycle at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday on Vista Del Sol when he struck a raised curb and he fell from the motorcycle. Police said Gallardo suffered severe head injuries. Gallardo was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, police said.

A Go Fund Me account has been created to assist Gallardo's family with medical and funeral expenses. According to the account, Gallardo is survived by three sons.
