In the summer of 1962, I took 'drivers ed' at EP Tech with Bob. I don't know how long he had been driving with his parents but I remember on the second or third in-car training lesson, Bob & the instructor picked me up on Fairfield Dr. at the curbside. For some reason that day, Bob decided to slow the car down by shifting gears --- without using the clutch. I remember that famous gear-grinding noise went on for quite a few seconds before the teacher (likely a coach somewhere in town) gently reminded Bob "Clutch...clutch...brake....brake....". No harm/no foul. We later survived to graduate and pass the driving test without missing a beat.

Bob was really good at many things and no doubt, a good driver as well. But in the back of my mind I always wished him the best of automatic tranmissions along life. A good man. dick sim

Bob Puffer was unique classmate and fellow BHS football team member from 1959 through 1963-1964.  He rose from Gray "Y" to BHS HS Football.  Coaches Robustelli, Handley, Wynn and Vitullo developed his football demeanor.  His greatest football talent and achievement occurred at FULLBACK, because Bob Puffer loved running over the competition and scoring touchdowns!!!!!!!  In addition, he was a great school teacher, father, husband and friend.

Please rest in peace, my brother
