Ernie, I think your uncle was a very wise man. It's to bad that we didn't pay more attention to them when we were young. And I'll bet that's not the first time around for that statement.

Time has a way of knocking some sense into us whether we like it or not.

Connie had a successful surgery and this coming Tuesday I go under the knife.

As for any alcoholic beverage, once you have prostate cancer and go on Flo-Max, your drinking days are over. That is the one thing that the doctors will pound into your head...no booze. But it has been ten years since I had the cancer, so thank the Lord for that. The saying regarding that cancer is that there are three types of men over 55 years old....The men that have had prostate cancer...The men that have prostate cancer...and the men that have not had prostate cancer; yet. Pay attention to what I just said and get checked. It can be cured if they catch it in time (96% cure rate), but the key is if detected in time.

God bless and be safe.

The Pisco cocktail sounded interesting.  I had never heard of it and wanted information.  I stopped when it said raw egg whites...that was the end of that curiosity.

I avoid egg whites, too. The Pisco Sour is appealing to look at with the beaten egg white and a dollop of bright orange Angostrura aromatic bitters atop the egg white. Haven't had this drink in years, but we keep all the fixin's on hand.

Rich - What were the symtoms and what was the treatment/cure? Procedure, surgery, chemo, radiation, other? Just curious what I have to look forward to! Hope your upcoming surgery goes well! Will it be accomplished laparoscopically? Will keep you in our prayers!

Monica - When it rains, it pours! I have aged more in the last five years than I had in my previous twenty!!! That magical age of seventy has a really slippery down slope!! I hope you find a really good neuro-surgeon that can treat your hubby! I have spinal stenosis with all kinds of vertebra issues, so I have a good idea what he is going through! Will keep him in our prayers also!!

Ernie (and others)

For the prostate cancer, they put 111 very small "seeds" of Iodine 125 (technical name) in the prostate. As far as that part, there were no side effects from them, except you cannot have a small child come within ten feet of you for 30 days!!! The problem that I had prior to that is that my prostate was very enlarged. The normal prostate is 6 to 10 grams. Mine was 58 grams, which is not uncommon for my age at the time. The problem then becomes if they use enough radio-active material to take care of the cancer, the amount of radiation would kill you. So I had to go through hormone theropy to shrink the thing. Two shots and some pills and I went through "menopause, much the same as what a woman would go through. This lasts about four months before they inject the seeds. So now, when I hear a lady complain and cry about hot flashes, I have a strong desire to cry right along with her.

And Connie informed me that it has been 12 years since I had the proceedure!!

If anyone wants to talk to me about facing this stuff, feel free to call. Initially, the thought scares the dickens out of you, but if you catch it early enough, it's not a big deal and the proceedure is really not all that bad.

Now, on to Tuesday and the kidney stone "explosion"

God bless and be safe.

Ernie,

The "symptoms" that I had prior to going to the doctor was needing to get up three or four times a night to use tha bathroom and even then, the "amount" of waste was minimal. If you or one of your loved ones has these tendancies, get to a urologist and get checked out.

As far as the nerve damage that your having, I was hobbling around at a mine in New Mexico with a  very swollen ankle and arthritis (doctors conclussion) .  A VERY old, wrinkled Navajo man at the site asked if I had arthritis and I said yes. He told me to "wait" and went into the tool crib. He came out with a piece of 1/4" raw copper tubing that he had flattened and formed into a loose bracelet for me. He told me to not take it of for any reason for seven weeks. "Do not take it off for your bath or shower, not for sleeping or anything else. He said that it would turn my wrist a nasty shade of green, but in about 5 to 7 weeks the green would  disappear and the arthritis would be gone!!! And he was right. I have had no trouble with my ankle since. I have told a lot of people about this and most of them swear by this stuff. And today, you see things on TV about braces and supports with copper woven into the cloth. I hope that old man made a fortune. I'm not a doctor, but it worked for me.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!!

Never had a problem with the raw egg whites.  Without them, the cocktail won't have the frothy look and texture that "makes" the pisco sour a pisco sour.  That said, I understand your concern.

Changing the topic.  I have a weight room with an Olympic weight set, barbells, stretch bands, etc..  In the room is one of my stereo set ups: Bose bookshelf speakers, an Infinity subwoofer, my SEA era Pioneer stereo receiver (bought in Thailand in 1973 and refurbished more than once; nice wood cabinet and works perfectly **), a Sony CD player, a Nakamichi cassette deck, and a Kenwood turntable.  I like fiddling with records and CDs (have hundreds of both) plus many cassette tapes.  Playing these CDs this week while lifting weights, which to be truthful, involves a lot of stretching and staying limber work mixed in with the pumping iron).  My advice: do NOT stay up late watching those "remember these" TV ad shows conducted by "that era" stars, especially when drinking.  And if you do, make sure your credit card is locked away. This boxed set cost me, like $1200?  Well, maybe it was only a couple hundred bucks, but for sure it wasn't cheap.  But what the heck, I get lots of listening pleasure from these box sets.  The song selections are terrific ("put your head on my shoulder..."will you love me tommorrow"...many, many move).  Playing in my garage workshop (where I have an Onkyo stereo/receiver, JBL studio speakers, a Sony subwoofer and a Sony DVD/CD player) is another box set: "The Best of Soft Rock."  Neighbors walking their partners or dogs will stop and ask about the music. Hey, life is moving on.  Our obligation is to move with it.  I never have to get up more than once/night, and when I do...it's the real deal for a minute or more.  Holy Moly...OK, ladies -- your contributions about being "our age??"

** This Pioneer SX-727 unit has wood sides, colorful front screens, and has been worked on several times over the last 50 years..  I bought it while in Thailand. We have a Classic Audio outfit here in San Diego that can fix almost anything.  This unit is still looking great and going strong after almost 50 years.

WEll aging isn't easy but I am grateful that God has allowed me to get to this age and to have have two precious great granddaughters that bring me much joy.  For those who love the 60's music, I listen to Pandora the 60's oldies.  Sure brings back a lot of memories and you can listen for free and put up with the advertisements or you can get it for $5 a month.  I have it on my phone so when I plug in my phone in the car I can listen to Pandora. Also have it on my computer as well.  Hope all stay healty and have a great weekend.

My wife is so naive.  She believes what I say. Found my credit card where she had hidden it.  Heh heh.  Just ordered the Forever '60s CD set from TimeLife.  $149.95 for 150 CDs.  Hmmm, well maybe a 7-8 CDs with 150 songs.  I have several box sets but this one looks "just enough" different from what I already have to justify a purchase.  Fingers crossed that the box set will satisfy what I'm looking for.  Should you still have a CD player, check out their website.  Lots of great stuff.

Well, Connie and I had our surgeries. Everything is good now, but I sincerely hope that I don't have to ever do that again. (or anyone else for that matter) Thanks to all for your prayers.

We really want to do the next mini...When will it be?

Back to the drawing board. God bless and be safe.

I don't post very often on here, but with all the recent health issues being posted, I felt it was time to chime in. The more I say the less anyone will believe me, so I will make this short and to the point. A year ago I fell and broke two ribs. A friend told me about a product that could "Help me." I trusted her so I bought it. To my amazement, it worked. Within two days I was out of pain. Before I couldn't touch my ribs, or breathe deeply. In two days I had no pain.

Over the year, I have experienced 36 health improvements. You don't have to take my word for this, but this is a new scientific breakthrough, and right now less than 2 % of the population has never even heard of this. For those that want to know more, please contact me. For those that want to dig into this read Dr. Lee Ostler's book Redox Matters, available on Amazon. I could also point to anyone that has the interest to watch some very interesting videos that give a short introduction to this science and technology.

I want to address the sciatica pain, the prostate issues, the ED issues, the chronic constipation, and the constant trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night and more but I said I wanted to keep this short and to the point. All these issues are resolved and I have zero pain in my body. I am also looking younger too. Like I said the more I say, the less people will believe me.

Turning 78 next month and husband will be 80 next birthday.  He is having a lot of issues and waiting on VA to see Orthopedic surgeon.  As for me, I am just trying to save my kidneys (due to RA medication) from dialysis and/or removal.  Age is definetly not for sissies.

Gee, wish I had been on this website earlier because on our last move I sent to auction over 300 CD's from the 50's, 60's and 70's which included a lot of Elvis.  Needless to say, I got ripped $40 for the whole works.  I also had the original Elvis Christmas Alblum with big pictures and I got a $1 for that.

Richard glad that your wife and yourself had successful surgeries.  I don't know if any of you remember Kenney Hammond, but his widow had intensive surgery which was result of an accident last year.  I am still waiting to hear how she is doing.  Her son was supposed to have let me know but I'm sure he forgot and still waiting.

Elvis...in this town he is referred to as saint Elvis.  There are about 300 Elvis impersonators here. I was at a Cadillac car show a couple of years ago and the stage was about 30 feet from my booth. Wouldn't you know it... they had an Elvis impersonator for entertainment. But for the fact that this guy was about 5 foot nothing, weighed a good 110 pounds and couldn't sing...he maybe could have been Elvis re-incarnated. He did have a white and gold costume on, with a huge black wig, and had these gigantic side-burns. (they reminded me of the huge shoes the clowns wore at the circus.) And he couldn't sing either. With the sound box turned up all the way (remember I'm only about 30 feet in front) he would girate his hips, swing his free arm in a gigantic circle and do "a hunka hunka burnin' LOVA" over and over at the top of his lungs, for at least twenty times. Finally, I turned, looked, and stood up and he shut up and left. Then for the second act, they brought in (I kid you not) a Barry Manilow impersonator!!!

Makes you want to just walk off down the street talking to yourself.

Las Vegas. You need a sense of humor.

God bless and be safe.

Richard glad you and your wife's surgeries went well.  I know the feeling about aging.  It sure gets here before you expect it.  Hope all the ladies have a good Mother's Day!

Mike's upcoming birthday spiked my concerns about life during and after Irvin.  On page 102 of our '63 yearbook he's the only male with 3 of my favorite ladies: Laurie, Trudie and Gwendillondillondillon.  How did he score that coup?  Then on page 118 he signed his top-row photo in the Honor Society page. Next, on page 213 he managed to again get on the top row, higher step so he could look down on me on a lower level in the Science Seminar City-Wide Groups photo.  We attended the all-city senior Science Seminar for 1962-63?  Honestly, I don't even remember the event.  On page 216, Mike again managed to get a "see me first" corner photo in the Who's Who layout.  On page 229 his senior photo is very nice, and again he managed to get the corner of the page.  But best of all he managed to get his photo on the same page as Our Hero Clive Cochran.  Hmmm.  Seems like Mike was in cahoots with the yearbook editor.  To top it all off, on page 334 Mike scored a photo with Corlea (sitting on Deen's Sprite) as "Most Likely to Succeed."  Oh wait.  Hmmm.  On page 335 we're reminded that Corlea was the yearbook editor.  Now, some 59 years later it all makes sense.  Life lesson?  Pal around with the yearbood editor!!  Otherwise, Happy Birthday, Mikesmiley

Someone wanted to know when the next mini is scheduled. Hopefully if everything stays good its planned for Oct 17-20. Hope to see a lot of missed faces. Our class of '62 had a really pathetic turn out 2 yrs ago.

Is anyone "in charge" of this years mini, or is it a "happening"? We really want to be there and we will know if that is possible within a month,

05/16/22 11:05 AM #1639

Monica White (Bruns)

Rick, as in the past no one is really "in charge". Everyone needs to make their own reservations and plans. As always our true and trusted leader Bryson sends out a mass email with restaurants, things to do and name tags.I believe most restaurants and cocktail bar in the Inn will be open. It is a busy time in Oct because of the Fall Foliage so if you are planning on coming should probably want to make reservations. The Inn gets pretty busy and be sure to call directly because online it usually shows "sold out". Hope to see a good turn out. 🚀

Our daughter sent us this.  I worked at C.R.Anthony's in high school. Mr. Garcia (the store manager) made $25,000,00 in 1961!!! I used to dream about what I could do with "all that money". How times have changed.

God bless and be safe.

Rick,

The Irvin Alumni Rendezvous will occur 17-20 October 2022 at the Inn of the Mountain Gods.  Typically, everyone meets at Wendell's Lounge at  5PM on Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday evenings for Happy Hour.  Jim Dunlap and Jimmie Vaughn have been so gracious each year to have a Hospitality Room where folks can meet later on in the evening if they so wish. During the day, folks normally get together in groups and sight see.  This is a very informal affair that everyone seems to enjoy. Ruidoso is usually very beautiful this time of year.  If you will please send me your email, I will add you to the distribution and send you an info packet. My email is brymccool@gmail.com.  I need to get Klaus to add the current Rendezvous info to the '63 site.  Hope you can make it.  Take care.  Bryson

Always a fun event.  Very well worth attending.  Side trips?  Billy the Kid country.  Fort Stanton.  The UFO museum in Roswell.  The mountain top ski area.  Cloudcroft (especially via the indian reservation road route).  Hitting the spa or gym.  Simply doing nothing but relaxing.

I will miss this year's mini.  I belong to an organization - The Thailand-Laos-Cambodia Brotherhood (TLC-B) - that recognizes the many service and civilian folks that supported the Vietnam conflict, without being on the ground in Vietnam.  Recall: much of the air war over Vietnam was based out of Thailand.  I was only in Vietnam once, but spent 2.5 years helping us to kick ass in SEA.  Managed our "substitute GI" Thai Security Guard program - we had 6500 guards at our max.  Also hit Laos and Cambodia.  Jumped with the Special Forces at Lopburi.  Fun skydiver jump that had us fly over Laos to get to our Thailand landing zone at NKP.  Anyway, that was then.  Now is now.

The TLC-B's annual reunion will be in Springfield VA the week before our mini. Given that two of our sons and their families (including our grand kids) are in the area, my priority is to attend the TLC-B reunion.  Accordingly, I'll miss our mini.

Jimmie (still in Spain, last I heard) told me that he will continue the hospitality suite tradition.  You all enjoy the mini!  It will be a great event.  Not to mention that the last time I checked, none of us are getting any younger.

My advice?  Attend the mini!!  Good times!!!

On this day, I want to think of all of our classmates that we have lost in protecting our freedom.

Chuck Rutherford    Viet Nam

Johnny Dollar      Viet Nam  (agent orange:  delayed until he got home)

Anyone care to add to and try to complete the list?

And from all of us that made it home we are honored by our service and saddened by those that did not get back. We cherish their memories.

May God bless all of you and be safe.
