Jon Erich Brockmoller

 

 

Former El Pasoan, Jon Erich Brockmoller, 62, passed away June 15, 2008 in New Braunfels, Texas. Jon was born in San Francisco, California on July 13, 1945 to Hans Erich and Janet Holliday Young Brockmoller. Jon moved with his parents to El Paso in 1946. Jon was the grandson of Hans Adolph and Elise Marie Brockmoller and John George and Elizabeth Cheney Young. Jon graduated from Irvin High School in 1963 and attended New Mexico State University for 2 years studying Astronomy. He joined the US Navy in 1966. After a tour of duty in Vietnam where he received a Bronze Star, Jon was designated Master Training Specialist for all four Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) training divisions. He was the only individual at that time to serve as the Lead Petty Officer for all four divisions. During his tenure at FASOTRAGRUPAC he rewrote the entire curriculum for the Cold Weather Environmental Survival program. Some of his other awards and commendations include a Humanitarian Service Medal, 2 Good Conduct Awards, 4 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, 2 Navy Commendation Medals, 5 Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medals and 2 Combat Action ribbons. Jon is survived by daughters, Sunny Leigh Moore, Kristi Lynn Fuller (Robert), grandson Evan Blue Fuller, sister Kristen Brockmoller Smith (Geoffrey L.), nephews Geoffrey Lawrence Smith Jr. (Quinn), Joshua Benjamin Smith (Laura), and Gregory Clayton Smith (Kerry), grand-nephews Case and Grey, grand-nieces, Annie and Aubry, and several cousins. Jon was proud to serve his country and was an inspiration to countless men and women. He will be greatly missed but his memory will live on in the many people who knew and loved him. Jon was buried with military honors at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on Friday, July 25, 2008.
