R I P, Chuck. It sounds like a life well lived.
Would that I'll be granted the same.

My friend, I'll have a shot of Tequila in your honor. Just like Raul used to serve us in our younger days at the Durango Bar.

"Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And think of all the great things we would do…

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end ..."

Those Were The Days, Song by Mary Hopkin

Chuck was a good friend at Irvin and Texas Western. He was always one of the smartest kids in the room, and always a gentleman, mature and reserved. I remember a conversation we had at TWC; we were probabaly freshman. Chuck said his ambition was to join the FBI. He knew it wouldn't be easy, the agency has very high standards. That was a long time ago, but it is great to know that he realized his goal. I bet he was a great agent. He is a credit to our school, his family should be very proud.

There were a number of us who attended Irvin who had also gone to Magoffin Jr. High (and some to Robert E. Lee Elementary School) together.  A few who come to mind are Frankie Niinneger, Charlie Ward, Karen Williams, Rusty Regrutto, and Charles Chalbalko.  Whenever of think of these, and most of the other students who went to Magofffin before Irvin, I always picture tthem from the Jr. High Years--probably because Irvin was so much bigger than Magoffin, and we mostly moved in different circles of friends.

So, when I think of Chuck, I think of him as a 7th grader.  We were not close friends, but I remember him as being smart, kind, quiet, and oh-so-handsome!  Chuck was not "cute" like many of the popular boys, but his good looks had a maturity that seemed beyond his years.  In fact, I think he had a maturity beyond most of us.  That may be the reason, as I recall, that during 7th grade Mr.. Mallon started calling him "Chuck", which seemed to have stuck.  As I recall, we called him Charles before then.  I could be mistaken, of course, and if anyone knows, please let me know.

In any case, I wish I could thank him for his service to our country, both in the military and FBI, and to congradulate him for having a grandson, a 5th generation Charles Chalbalko.  I hope his life was filled with all good things.
