Received this from Steve Cook - a friend of Joe of asked me to post on his page -

Joe and I had become close friends over the last 20 years or so before he passed away.  I met Joe at Hughes Aircraft (now Raytheon) back in the late 90’s.  We did a lot of camping with our close circle of surly friends and we all enjoyed his many stories and “lectures” on everything from economics, poetry, history, cowboy philosophy and a seemingly endless list of literary topics.  We came to know Joe as a dedicated father, scholar of life,  a true-blue friend and someone who could always be counted upon to be there for his friends and family.  His camping buddies very much miss hearing his voice around the camp fire.  His passing is a tremendous loss and has left a void that will never be filled.
