James M. Heverly Jr. Obituary

Elmira - It is with a deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of James Michael Heverly, Jr. Born January 8, 1944 to Phyllis (Ballard) and James M. Heverly, Sr. he was one of four children. Marianna, Ruthie and Johnny are his siblings. Jimmy, from the beginning, knew that family and friends were the love of his life. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He married Mary L. Dolan and together they had three children…Jennifer, J.J. and Joey. Jimmy was co-owner of Heverly-Short Construction, a truck driver, plumber, furnace repair man, family chauffeur, roofer, carpenter and mechanic. If someone needed help he was there. Jimmy loved poker on Wednesday nights, so he could then brag how he took everyones money. He also loved having coffee with "the boys" and golfing. Tomasso's lost a loyal customer, and plumber. Jimmy is predeceased by his father, James M. Heverly, Sr., mother and step-father, Phyllis Hryskanich and William Hryskanich, son, James "Jay" Heverly, step-brother, Terry Hryskanich, and brother-in-law William Toney. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Todd Taft of Pine City; son and daughter-in-law Joe and Karen Heverly of Elmira; daughter-in-law Jamie Heverly of Horseheads; siblings and their spouses, Marianna and Joe Farley of Horseheads, Ruthie Toney of Horseheads, John and Lola Heverly of Kissimmee FL; longtime sweetheart Kathleen Gale of Ithaca; former wife and friend Mary Manly of Elmira with her husband James; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, a lot of great friends, and members of the Elmira Professional Firefighters Local #709. Jimmy's love for life has been passed on to his grandchildren, Zachary (Steph), James, Ian, Jere, Jack, and great grandchild Blake. All his grandchildren played hockey, just like J.J. and Joey did, and he was their number one fan. Even though he froze his tush off going to their games, he had plenty of down coats on to keep him warm! Jimmy's sweetheart Kathleen shared his love for travel, music, dinners, and movies. Known and loved by many, he will be missed terribly. Heaven just got the best! Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7:15 p.m. Interment, committal prayers, and military honors will take place on Friday, September 14, 2018, Woodlawn National Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing may remember Jimmy with a donation to The New York Rangers, Garden of Dreams Foundation, 2 Penn Plaza, 14th Floor, New York NY 10121.
