In Memory

Steven M Neyer

Steven M. Neyer March 13, 1952 – June 18, 2025(Sun City, Arizona) My friend Steve graduated with all of us from Englewood High School in 1970 and went on to a short-lived broadcasting career before finding his true calling as an insurance agent for American Family Insurance in Englewood, retiring in 2014. Steve was pleased to help his family, friends and anyone with their insurance needs – he was a great salesman but more importantly to him was his service to clients in their time of need. Steve married Deb on March 16, 1973 in Littleton, Colorado. He simply adored this woman who would be by his side for the next 52 years. With Debbie they had three sons, Christopher, Brandon and Adam. They have three grandchildren, Natalie, Nate and Drew. Steve’s family meant the world to him and he was pleased to attend Natalie’s high school graduation this last spring. Tragically, his youngest son Adam was killed by a drunk driver the week prior to his graduation from Englewood High School in 2001. This shaped the rest of Steve’s life; however, he worked tirelessly in community service and lobbying the State legislature for stronger drunk driving laws to try to prevent this needless tragedy from happening to others. Steve’s later dream was to retire to Sun City, Arizona and he made that dream come true in 2014. Steve and Deb enjoyed all of the activities in their retirement community and would be sure to call me when it was sunny in the desert and snowing in Denver! He loved harvesting his grapefruit, oranges, limes and making Limoncello for his friends. Steve faced many different, serious health issues in the last few years but he always did it with humor and great spirit. His zest for life was quite incredible – he never gave up! I met Steve at Sinclair Junior High – he was a Clayton Elementary kid and I had been at Maddox. We remained friends over the next 60+ years with numerous trips to Blackhawk (he was really quite lucky at the slots!) and the last couple of years we were fortunate to attend a number Rockies spring training games in Scottsdale. Goodbye to my good friend and congratulations on a life well lived!

Richard,

Thanks for such a nice memorium for Steve, I know you guys were close.  I went to Clayton and knew Steve from there.  The babysitter I went to lived 3 houses from Steves house so we often walked together after school.  I remember Steve was like the 3rd bigest kid in our class.  He was at least double my weight.  He was a gentle giant in my eyes.  Never a bully or mean, I remenber him as being fun and kind.  In high school I think he had a 59 chevy that was kind of a faded red (I could be wrong about that) .  Rex, Steve and you spent some time together in that car as did I.  I remember when he first met Deb and he was telling us about her.  He obviously was very taken by her and it sounds like that love was enduring.  I am so happy he had that in his life as well as a good friend like you. I am sorry for your loss but thank you for your message.  It brought back a lot of good memories of Steve
