Gene my friend, I was the one you spent the last couple hours of your short life with. And there has only been a few days of the last 40 years ( July 31,1976 ) that I have not thought of you, and why I was not taken with you.
I only wish I would have known what was on your mind that night, and why you didn't listen to my pleas to slow down and stop. I'm not sure why my life was spared, but hope you don't hold any hard feelings when we meet again.
I remember very well Hearing the news . I know where they were . My friend and I went down that same road racing along many times ourself . Ron had fast cars too . We all enjoyed a good Cruise. RIP My Friend
Thank you for being willing to share your comments, it means a lot. July 31st 1976 was a very significant day for me too, maybe I can share with you sometime.
Wow Mark thank you for the way cool thoughts there man. I also often remember that night when I was in the back seat leaving with you and Geno and I just had to run back into Brads party and get some more beer, when I came back out ...you guys had left without me and I was pissed....then my Mom woke me up the next morning and told me what had happened..You and me talked that day or maybe it was the next as you were still recoverying. I thought for the longest time that I was one Lucky dumbass... But as time went by I relized it wasn't luck it was a blessing for both of us and how grateful I am to be here and Genes life was also a blessing to me since we met back at Maddox. I've certinaly made more than my fair share of mistakes along the road here over the past 40 years but I can't even try to count the times I have avoided doing something stupid because of that night. I certianly don't mean to sound like a selfish slob in this post but I know that has saved my life more than once. I look forward to checking in with you on Friday night and I will always be grateful to you and Geno. Your both always in my thoughts..SMILE Tim
I will always remember that night, the Englewood Police department called me to see if I knew anything. I lost Gene Vargo that night. My best friend. I still miss him
Gene was a very special friend to me, and I miss him. I remember the next morning gathering with Jeff, Randy, George, and Cindy Greene to mourn our dear Gene. You touched our lives with sunshine.
