2nd night of reunion
Posted Wednesday, January 27, 2010 05:35 PM

Here is a thought.... I know that Friday night is usually a " Alumni" get together for the reunion, but in case some can't go on Friday and can go on Saturday, I thought that instead of having it as it normally is as a sit down dinner, Have 2 nights of just hanging out and everyone getting together so we don't have to pay the fee for the dinner for the second night, I know that times are hard and alot of people of course have to travel just to come, so to top it off it was $50 a person I believe at the 10 year reunion, Not sure if it will be the same this time, but if that is what it is, it would save alot of money for those who really can't afford it. It doesn't matter to me either way, I know for me, I will not be going to the Saturday night dinner, Only the Friday night get together.. Please respond to the post and let us know what you think.  I suggested it to Jamie and he told me to post it on here and get feedback,, So we need your feedback! PLEASE!!!!!!!

Wendy after chewing on this for a few hours your idea is starting to grow on me. Maybe make the 2nd night still a private party for the class of 1990 but skip the whole stuffy dinner thing. Maybe just appetizers and dessert stuff.  Maybe the attire could be "1990" attire :)

I would defiantly like to get more opinions on this.

Heyy now I like the 90's attire idea!!!  I just think if we did it like that it would be more fun and alot more relaxing.  After seeing pictures of other people's reunions and the " Dinner" it just seems as though everyone is sitting there... doing... nothing... ya know?  Friday night.. Alumni night.. Saturday night. Class of 90 only.  I hope others do comment on this!

Are there any events involving kids?  I need to start working on the sitter situation.  I kind of like the apps & desserts idea.  It is almost impossible to please everybody with a sit-down menu.

I agree with you guys....  there's no reason to go all out on a 5 course meal...  that only tethers people at their table for an hour as we all stuff our faces..  I'd rather see everyone up and mingling....   id rather see money go towards entertainment like a good DJ, decorations or fun stuff...  finger foods and appetizers would work better than sit down dinner...  we might also be able to get Publix or some other caterer to donate stuff.....   the open bar is another issue  :-)

Actually Adam!! I do believe I have seen on Facebook that Jack is one of your friends.. Jack Drew that is.. He is my husband's store manager. My husband has only been there for about a year. If that is something you could approach Jack with,,that would be GREAT! If not, I understand, I can always ask him to find out.

Even if its only the paper products they donate it would be huge...

Wendy, I like your idea.  The two night idea -- both planned as "hang out" events -- sounds good.  Formal events can be too stale and stodgy ... let's hang out, catch up and have a blast!

Friday night as an "All LBHS Alumni" event at a local Englewood spot followed by a Saturday event (similar venue in Englewood) limited to confirmed "LBHS Class of 1990" grads only.

My vote is YES!

Sweet! Thanks John :) Looking forward to seeing you there!  I can't remember, but were you at the 10 year? It has been so long, I can't remember who all went to it.

Wendy,

great idea abotu publix.  Yeah, Jack just got his own store, he's the GM of one of the Publix stores.  My half brother works in the deli at another one too....  Ill talk to jack and work something out.    bar food is the way to go, that way people aren't tethered to their tables all night.   jamie and I have some great ideas for entertainment....

Just a couple suggestions, I polled a couple people who have had reunions lately in other areas.  They said name tags are a must (not that any of us have changed over the last 20 years).  Someone in Englewood said they thought The White Elephant had banquet rooms, patio & music.  I have NO IDEA what is what there anymore.  Just passing that one on too.  Lighter food would be fine, I think.  My husband's reunion is a full on affair costing us a fortune.  I welcome the more casual but nice idea.  Decent food & drink with lots of time to catch up.  The time capsule was fun/interesting last time.  Maybe we could have a table for people to bring memorabilia/pictures to put out to share.  It would be a lot of work for someone, but it would be great to have a yearbook picture on the name tag.  Picturing Gross Pointe Blank for some reason...anyway, some thoughts.

Adam

Jack is the manager at my husbands store.. It is the new store that just opened up in Venice, My hubby works there, but hasn't been there for very long, I just figured since you are friends with him, you could get some information.

Paula, Yes the nametags are a must,  Jamie and I were starting to work on them, I do have the yearbook, Just not quite sure where we are at with that yet, I will have to talk to Jamie and see where we are with it.  Yes the White Elephant has ALOT of space, It is on Englewood Beach, Use to be the Captains Club I believe when we were in school, It is right across the street from the beach.  I have done so many parties at my home and have gone ABOVE and beyond and I have learned to " keep it simple" So much easier and then EVERYONE gets to enjoy themselves, That is why I kinda thought that the Saturday night part  should just be simple as well, White Elephant would be good for that for sure.   By the way, Your mom is just a DOLL! She and your dad are the sweetest people!! They were soo supportive of my mom when she was goin through all of her stuff. Just thought I'd let ya know, You do have great parents, " not like you don't already know"

Jamie, Were you able to do anything with those yearbook pics I sent you?

Gross Points Blank came to my mind too....   name tags with photos are a must...  it shoudnt be too much work, I dont expect more than 75 classmates....   were planning on having a WiFi card for a laptop, and a projector so that classmates who cant make it can go online with a web cam and say hi to people....  the photo table is a good idea too...  I was gonna put a slide show together with the projector.  Do you guys remember the book we made as seniors that had all of our self prophecies in them...  "in 20 years, I will be......"    I thought it would be funny to have a game where we read a prophecy out loud of someone at the event and people have to guess who it was...   I had suggested to Jamie Ratcliff that he have one of his photographers there to capture the event, and maybe Jamie Bernstein can write a song about our class and sing it at the reunion...   it will be a really fun time!

I'm not sure if it matters, but I too think you are all on the right path here.  It all sounds like a great time. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you.  I missed everyone for our ten year.  I live in Englewood, so let me know what I can do.

Rachele, thanks for checking in.   We have the big things locked in already,  ie location, price, date, DJ, entertainment etc     I think the biggest help would be with decorating our room on Saturday morning.  Anyone that is local who can help out Saturday morning with decorations and incidentals please post on here with your contact info and we'll start a list.    Looking forward to it!
