Sad about Ed. To the best of my knowledge he was the only classmate we lost from the Class of '65 while still a student at Saints. Memory has it around August of 1962 directlly after participating in a pre-season football team practice that he just simply collapsed. Saints got banned from participating in league sports that year because the practice was a week earlier than allowed by conference rules. Ed was a quiet, shy guy. As freshmen we had to write a story in Miss Breen's class and I don't recall the exact theme but in mine I wrote about our football team in the future. Our pre game pep rallies seemed to always have the never achieved goal of a 73-0 score over our opponent. In my story I had our team having a 73-0 game in our senior year and Ed Lucas was the star. His shyness took a bit of offense to it and in my yearbook that year he wrote "Hope you aren't in my class next year". It made me feel eerie then and still now just shy of fifty years later.
