
Winston-Salem - Mr. Douglas Lyle Swafford, 47, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at his home.
Mr. Swafford was born in Franklin, Dec. 31, 1957, son of Harley Lyle and Evelyn Hurst Swafford. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and had been employed with Vulcan Materials Company for the past 11 years. Mr. Swafford studied the martial art Kiakshinka and was a second degree black belt student of Darrel Wilson. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed motorcycles. Mr. Swafford was a favorite uncle to all his nieces and nephews.
Surviving are his wife, Meredith Beck Swafford of the home; step daughter, Terra Anne Hines; step son and his wife, James Edmund and Amanda Eason Hines and unborn grandchild, London McKay Hines; his mother and father of Candler; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ann Swafford and their children, Mikey, Matthew and Andres; brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Tammy Swafford and their children, Ashley, Nathan, Daniel and Brandon; mother and father-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Robert C. Beck, Winston-Salem; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joel Beck and Joel's daughter, Chloe and her mother, Christina, Joel's son, Oliver Horne-Beck and his mother, Rebecca Horne, Amy and Bobby Rominger and their children, Nina Rominger and Lilly Rominger, David and Rachel Beck and their children, Emma Beck and Alex Beck, Steven and Kristin Beck and their children, Spencer Beck and Jessica Beck.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Voglers Reynolda Road Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at the home of Robert and Bettianne Beck.
A memorial service will also be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pole Creek Baptist Church in Asheville.
The family requests that any memorials be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
