Helen M. Damcott, 59, of Erie, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at her home. She was born May 5, 1945 in Erie, a daughter of the late Maurice and Marian Damcott.
She was a teacher in the Erie School District for 35 years, retiring in 2002. During that time, she taught at Edison, Burton, and Jefferson elementary schools. She also taught technology for the district at all grade levels.
She received her bachelor's degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and later received her master's degree in reading there.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; the National Education Association; Pennsylvania State Education Association; and the Erie Education Association. She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, where she served as treasurer and council member. She was also a member, past president, and treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter.
She enjoyed computers, cross-stitching, knitting and cooking.
Survivors include a brother, John Damcott and his wife, Marlene, of Erie; a sister, Marthetta Baljo and her husband, Dennis, of Washburn, Wisc.; a nephew, Jeffrey Damcott; and three nieces, Deborah Damcott, Deirdre Maki and Janna Baljo.
Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, 4216 Sterrettania Road. A service will be held there Thursday at 10 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Phillip May of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
