John Paul Payne Jr. John Paul Payne Jr. age 52 of 440 West 9th Street, died unexpectedly, Friday April 20, 2007 at his residence. He was born in Erie on November 28, 1954 a son of Clara Steele Payne of Erie and the late John Paul Payne Sr.

John was a 1973 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. His employment started as a jitney driver for Bucyrus Erie for over 15 years and was currently employed in the maintenance department of City of Erie Water Treatment plant for the past 12 years. He was an avid 49er’s fan, loved cars, especially corvettes, and was a very social person.

In addition to his mother he is survived by two brothers: Charlie W. Payne and his wife Sherry; William “Eric” Payne and his wife Shelly both of Erie; six sisters: Sylvia A. Brown and her husband Donald; Marguerite Thomas and her husband Nathan; Dolores Payne; Sheryl Long and her husband Raymond all of Erie; Rita J. Lockett and her husband Robert of Rochester, N.Y.; Sandra L. Maldonado and her husband Juan of Tracy, California; further survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 West 10th St., Erie on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. and are invited to attend services there Thursday at 1 p.m. with Marvin Atkinson officiating.
