 William R. Butch Leupold, 36, of San Diego, California, and formerly of Erie died suddenly Thursday, October 25, 2007 in San Diego.
He was born in Erie on October 18, 1971, a son of Sharon Drozeski Clark of Palm Bay, Florida and the late William E. Leupold and a stepmother Judy Leupold of Erie.
He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and had attended Edinboro University.
He had been serving as an Operation Specialist First Class in the U.S. Navy for the past 15 years. Prior to joining the Navy he had worked in Erie for Waldameer, the Hearth, Ponderosa, and the Ground Round. He enjoyed computers and was a rifle marksman.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his stepmother Judy Leupold of Erie, a sister Shannon Clair and her husband Matt of Painesville, OH, a brother Jason Clark of Palm Beach, FL, a step brother Tim Ryan and his wife Eileen of Findley Lake, NY two stepsisters, Maggie States and her husband David of Erie, and Dee Ryan and her companion Steve Barickman of Albion, PA; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Butch was one of my best friends during high school. I will forever regret falling out of touch with him. I have many fond memories. He was a good guy and a great friend. I have always thought about him over the years. So sad to read he has passed. I fondly remember English class where he told me I was "pretty cool, for a girl." And sitting watching planes come in at the end of the airport on Powell, talking about whatever.
