From Ervin's son Tanner Powell:

Ervin passed away February 16, 2019 at the age of 54. He had caught the flu/pnuemonia and was admitted to the Presbys Cardiovasucular Institute in La Jolla.  After about a two week hospital stay, his heart and lungs were not functionioning well and it was just to much for his body to fight any longer with  the official cause being respiratory failure.
