In Memory

Krista Beatty

Early yesterday morning in Houston, Texas, my sister, Krista Jean Beatty, passed away at the age of 48.  She had overcome more obstacles in her short life than anybody else I've ever known.

Despite the many challenges with which she had to contend, she persevered and earned her undergraduate degree.  She thrived in academia, next earning her Master's degree in cross-cultural studies, graduating at the top of her class.  She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the academic honor society that counts among its members 17 Presidents, 38 Supreme Court Justices, and 136 Nobel Laureates.  She now stands with them.

It has been said that it's not how many times you get knocked down that count, but how many times you get back up.  If that is true, then Kris is a champion of champions.

It is a sad day for those of us who recall her bright smile and striking blue eyes.  Remember her, as I will, as the generous, loving, happy person that she truly was at her core.

Very nice eulogy ,Rick! I had the gift of knowing her from 6th grade thru about 10th. I remember her enthusiasm and positive attitude. Along with that smile that didn't quit! You could get lost in her eyes!

It sounds like she didn't change much from when we were kids! I am extremely sorry to hear of her passing, and pass my condolences on to her family. I am also sorry It's been so long since I've seen her...

I didn't know Krissy very well, but she left such an impression on me in middle school and high school with her sparkling and vibrant personality that, over the years, I often thought of her and wondered where her life had taken her.  Thank you, Rick, for sharing her accomplishments which would be enviable under any circumstance, let alone amidst the tests and difficulties she endured.  My prayers go out to her and her family.  Deepest sympathy.

Rick,

I've searched for her on FB over the last few years.  I'm so sad that I didn't get a chance to reconnect with her. Thanks for letting us know about her amazing accomplishments - not surprising at all.  She is such a vibrant soul and her absence leaves a big space.  Losing a sibling is a unique kind of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
