Thomas Martin Beier (March 7, 1969-May 22, 1985)
This is the text that appeared in the 1984-85 yearbook: "These Freshman pages are dedicated to the memory of our friend and fellow classmate, Tom. We will always remember him because of his ability to make his friends smile and forget their problems. Throughout junior high and high school, Tom was involved in football for 3 years, track for 1 year, and band for 2 years, and the 1985 school play, 'You Can't Take It With You.'
"Tom moved here in fourth grade and became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah, IA. He was very close to his siblings, and helped them in many ways. He was friendly and caring, but wasn't above trying to out-insult Mr. G.
"Although he wasn't with us long, there are many things that the freshmen will lovingly remember about Tom. He was known for his expertise in working with cars and fishing. Also, he was a hilarious Eugene in the sixth grade play. His treatment of Mrs. Quist is another memory. His great green bomb was a familiar sight at school activities, too.
"The freshman class would like to say that although it has been very painful, we feel we have learned and grown a lot during this time. We will never forget Tom. He influenced all our lives, even if we didn't realize it at the time.
"We will miss you, Tom."
